Am I anti-Semitic?

Asked by dopeguru (1928points) October 23rd, 2014

And furthermore, as an atheist is it wrong to be anti-Semitic? I believe that a lot of Jewish people have the minority psychology. They’ve been minorities throughout history in various places and situations, and the suffering of the past events given them the ambition to succeed even more so in many areas. This is just a theory I put forward in trying to explain to my friend why Jewish people are on top of Hollywood business as well as others like technology, etc. I haven’t done much research on what areas they are reigning but I just put out a doubtful theory.

Now, does this make me an anti-Semitic asshole? An unreasonable dummy, a bad philosopher?

Also another point I’d love answered is if being anti-Semitic is still disgusting for atheists.

Thanks.

Being racist is wrong for anyone. Only you and your friends can tell if you’re anti-semitic but if you are generalizing about any group, you are very likely being a bigot.

@janbb I don’t think I am racist because I don’t make a prejudgment when meeting a Jew that they are greedy, and nicely put hard-working, successful and sticking together). All the jews I got close to and experienced have been this way and even stolen from me great amounts, but that doesn’t mean all of them are this way!

Im just saying that besides my experiences, can the greedy ones among Jews be explained by minority psychology (as I pointed out in the question)? At least not fully(because you can say its ‘people’ not jews that can be greedy), we can only make assumptions, but is it a valid point that the past and conditions affect their success and greed? Not saying all jews are like this, just talking about the ones that are.

Minority psychology has nothing to do with it. It is most likely nurture over nature, family programming, strength of character. These factors factor into all behaviors across all lines of humanity.
Consider the fact that your organisms evolution is luck of the draw and YOU could just as easily manifested as as someone of another race or religious preference based on the people and culture you were born into. You could also have been born a Bullfrog or Bison.

In every barrel a bad apple or two shows up, doesn’t mean every apple in the barrel is bad.

@Coloma Thank you. I have a question, what determines family programming, in jewish families?

The fact that you do not capitalize the word “Jewish” and you make generalizations about what Jewish people do for a living may not make you anti-semetic, but it does make you look like an asshole.

What about all the people who are on top in Hollywood and Technology who are not Jewish? How do you think they got there? Do you ascribe it to their religion or ethnic background too?

Yes, from your posts, it sounds like you are anti-Semitic. Having a belief in God has nothing to do with being racist.

I haven’t done much research on what areas they are reigning but I just put out a doubtful theory. That makes you part of the large group of “Assumption mongering, Researchless guessing and Factless polemicists.”

All the jews(sic) I got close to and experienced have been this way and even stolen from me great amounts, but that doesn’t mean all of them are this way! Where to even begin with an exegesis here.

@gailcalled Start with the word “asshole” and move on from there.

^^ Perhaps I should arrange a render-vous, steal his wallet and then bite him?

osoraro's avatar

@gailcalled Just gore him with your horns.

^^ OK. To be on the safe side, I’ll sharpen everything,

”...is it wrong to be anti-Semitic?”

Yes.

From your question, I’m unclear if you’re an anti-Semite, or just confused?

kritiper's avatar

In my opinion, yes, being anti-anybody, generally speaking, is disgusting. I am anti-theism, but I don’t hate theists personally. You might be anti-Semite, and your philosophies are wack, too.

Coloma's avatar

@dopeguru The same programming that effects every family dynamic. Culture, tradition, beliefs.

dopeguru's avatar

@Coloma So I can’t say that jewish culture of desiring ultimate success is influenced by the holocaust?

snowberry's avatar

@dopeguru You’d give me a much better idea of where you’re coming from if you’d explain why you’re not capitalizing “jewish”——-> Jewish!

ibstubro's avatar

You’ve had plenty of answers, @dopeguru. Are you?

Yes, not based on your question alone, but also on your reply to janb. Judaism is simply a religion, like any other. Some observe it, in many different ways, some don’t. Judging someone based on their being of a religion, some say maternally based, like judaism, or paternally based, like islam, is absurd. How can there be anything genetically linked to predisposition based on religion?

Oh, and is being anti semitic still disgusting for atheists? Yes. I decide when it isn’t and I will let you know.
