I wore a new pair of new shoes for the first time. Same for clothing. But I bet you weren’t looking for this sort of answer.

About a week and a half ago, took a different ferry off Vancouver island, the ferry I usually take was full so tried this other one ,wasn’t bad.

For the first time I skipped a class just to practice for a test. Instead of taking the sport test this week, I skipped the class so that I had extra time to practice.

@snowberry: I am open to any and all types of answers. It could even be someone tried a certain restaurant for the first time, could be someone did a certain sex act for the first time, whatever!

I did a complete re-fret on a guitar yesterday for the first time.

Yesterday, the drop tower in kings dominion. It looked scary but the drop portion felt very short before you felt the breaks hit. It needed to be higher.

I surfed for the first time last week. It went surprisingly well, even managed to stand completely and ride 4 waves all they way back in.

Figured if I’m in Costa Rica I should probably try and surf :P

Boy; at my age to do something for the first time is quite unusual. Let’s see: three days ago I got the tiniest lizard you can imagine out of the bathtub and put it outside on the porch screen. Not very interesting but I was happy. Yesterday, I fixed the dishwasher. Well, actually, a six inch plastic piece had fallen off the inside of it and I was able to put it back on .
Knowing how you guys can’t wait for more of my stories I’ll post more if I can think of any .

Wow. This is a good question to make me think about whether I’m trying new things or not.

Last week, I typed up a conference proposal in response to a call-for-papers. It was my first time doing this and I sure was nervous. I wouldn’t have done it if my job didn’t depend on it, but am glad I did it!

First time for the shoes on my feet.

Yesterday I stopped at a random church bazaar and bought homemade maple caramels. I went back for more and when they were out, begged the woman’s name out of them and called her. She’s making me an additional 2 gallons. :-)

I saw the first solar eclipse of my adulthood this week.

I was paid to attend an auction yesterday.

I looked an old man in the eye and called him an asshole yesterday, then repeated it.

My life is full of firsts.

Last weekend I tried outrigger canoe paddling. After just 3 paddle strokes I made a “Huli” (flipped the canoe). The water was cold but I got the canoe back up-right, got back into the canoe and still had a fun time.

jca's avatar

@ibstubro: What did the old guy do before you called him the name? Just curious. You must have been mad.

I recently rode the higest end show horse ever in my horsey history. This mare is worth multiple 000’s. She also hurt me a few weeks ago, damn, and I thought I had mastered the most spirited steeds. Heh…my bruised liver is a first in a long line of horsey injuries resulting in a CT scan to make sure I didn’t rupture anything.

From zero to 60 in a nanosecond and I wasn’t quite ready for her speed.
Suffice it to say I am a bit afraid of her right now, I’m gettin’ old, but my bold got the best of me. lol

GQ.

Friday night I went to a restaurant I had never been to before. We were staying in Daytona for a race and one of our friends picked the place. Food was ok. The food would have been better if it had come out hot; it came out barely warm. We try new restaurants probably once a month where we live.

I went ice skating a few months ago, which isn’t new, but I had not done it in 15 years and might as well had been new. It wasn’t quite like riding a bike.

I started a new job a month ago and I have never worked in this type of business and I am trying to learn Quickbooks and other new computer software.

I was at an auction, @jca. There was a man there that is known for his unpleasant disposition. He bought something, went to walk by me (face to face), paused, and rammed his shoulder into mine. Totally unprovoked. He had been setting in front of me, so it’s not like he could have even been mad at me for bidding against him. I was just the one that got to share his deep abiding anger at life. I said “Asshole!” He set his box down, walked back to me and said “WHAT did you say?!” And I replied, “You are an asshole.” He talked some talk about knocking me on my ass, then wandered off. He would have been severely out numbered, as I’m known as a decent, well intentioned guy and he’s know for trying to provoke people.

I think the next time he shows up at my auction house, I’ll throw him out. There’s no call for it and he can’t be in public without provoking someone.

I was at an auction once, bidding on a tray. I won it at $7.00. Then this random lady picked up the tray and turned towards me. I assumed she was going to hand it to me, but she just shoved her way past me. The auctioneers were yelling “Hey! We had Val!” She just set her face in stone. She took my tray. The auctioneers asked if I wanted to start over. I said, “Nah, just let it go.”
Thinking back, I should have started over. Everyone around me would have bid against the lady. Run it up to $500 or something! Then they would have given it to me for $7.00. Some people are just jerks.

I went with hubby on his first hike after the surgery to repair his crushed knee from a motorcycle accident 10 months ago. Can I call it mine too, since I went with him?

I didn’t get much sleep last night. I’m about to take my first nap of the day. LOL

Lets see. Took one of my kids in for stitches for the first time, in 1988. Lots more to follow after that, all for the same kid, but 1988 was the first time.
I became immune to any emotion due to copious amounts of blood pouring from open wounds, thanks to that kid.

jca's avatar

@Dutchess_III: The question is “When was the last time you did something for the first time?” Not “when was the first time that you did something for the first time?”

Dutchess_III's avatar

Pffft. Now I’m gonna have to think.

Dutchess_III's avatar

OK, for the first time I put a political sign in my yard for a non-president election. That was 3 weeks ago. That better? :/

I just finished a grilled cheese sandwich made with Balsamic-vinaigrette sardines and Havarti cheese. I should have left the Dijon-mayo off, but otherwise it was very good.

I really wanted a spinach & goat cheese pizza from Domino’s.

Last night’s boiled noodles with butter, garlic, salt, Parmesan cheese and cooked fresh asparagus was a big hit.

OH! Corrie is making the twins into Bonnie and Clyde. She has Savannah’s outfit together, but was struggling with Kales because Clyde always wore a suit. I told her I’d go hunt for a size 2T vest at Goodwill. I figured my chance of finding one were slim to none. The lady there said they don’t get many. Looking, looking, looking, looking, looking, came around a corner and WHOOP there it was!.

So, I bought a little kid’s vest at Goodwill for the first time today.

A few days ago I successfully installed seven (so far) free fonts on my Windows 8.1 laptop. Next weekend I will be installing the first font I will have to pay for. Also, yesterday I used about:config in Firefox to try to resolve some problems I was having.

I made tuna carpaccio for the first time today. I also made a sauce out of orange, lime, ginger, soy sauce, garlic, hot pepper, dijion mustard, and cilantro that I drizzled over it, so yummy.

Skydiving in 1993 but after spending $90.00 for just one jump, I figured that would be the last time I do that!
It was a fun experience though the actual jump only lasted a mere 3 minutes!
The cost did not justify the need to reexperience it again.
Once was enough.

I’m considering feeding Zoey glitter. If I do, it will be the first time I’ve ever fed anyone glitter.

fluthernutter's avatar

@Dutchess_III Edible glitter? There’s also edible gold! Imagine how sparkly her poop would be. Ha.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I was just thinking of regular old glitter. :D

snowberry's avatar

—@Dutchess_III Consider also crayons.

I had 5 children under 9. One day at church there was an emergency in the nursery. An old lady was totally freaked out because the twins had brightly colored bits in their poop. It seems they had found the crayon box the day before (they ate a few of different colors), and later they pooped at church. Finally I wrote to Crayola and told them the story and suggested they put vitamins in their crayons! :D

Dutchess_III's avatar

When my oldest pooped red the first time I kind of freaked out!

ibstubro's avatar

Scarey that I remember eating Crayons, intentionally? Cat food, dog food, Elmer’s glue. Modeling clay is really gross. Play Doh wasn’t bad if you cut it out, put it on the register and dried it well. Hard and salty.

Mento has a breath mint like no other i know of. I had Wintergreen, and they are clear green little ovals with a delicious taste. Much better than the white kind. Great find.

snowberry's avatar

@ibstubro I’ve done the same and a few others, with the exception of the Mentos.

I had a CT scan for the first time, 3 months ago. Had a second one today. It’s a lot like that sci fi movie…oh, what was it? They stepped through this spinning, humming ring….Star…something. Stargate!

Well I can say that just recently on my B-Day, some wonderful Coworkers of mine took me out to a place called Big Daddy’s, lol I know it sounds kinky but its actually a Southern Themed Restaurant, Ive always wanted to experience the taste of Alligator, I must say the experience of it was stimulating to my senses, I also had Creole style gumbo which was excellent, for my drink I had something called a Zombie, yes! I will be going back again!

Coloma's avatar

Oooh…..gumbo! The only way I will eat Okra. haha

Broken_EarthAngel's avatar

@ Coloma, its AWESOME!! Ohh boy! Here comes the MODS!!

Coloma's avatar

^^^ Shhhh…maybe they won’t notice. haha Mmmm gimme gumbo. haha

Broken_EarthAngel's avatar

@ Coloma,Covers mouth with both hands, hehehe, Google Big Daddy’s and drool over the menu.

Coloma's avatar

LMAO..“Crazy aunt Barbaras chicken fried steak.
I want the Pistachio crusted Grouper and the Motor mouth stuffed shrimp. OMG…I have to go to bed now. Walks away with my sad little sliced apple and cheetos snack. haha

Broken_EarthAngel's avatar

@Coloma Im sure you can find Southern Food in your area, just try sometime.

El_Cadejo's avatar

I tried paca (aka the royal rat) today for the first time. So delicious, the best way I can think to describe it is like the most tender roast pork you’ve ever had.

Coloma's avatar

@El_Cadejo Well good thing I never plan on kissing you. Gag! lol

El_Cadejo's avatar

@Coloma Absolutely deliciousness. What makes some mammals ok to eat while others are not?

Coloma's avatar

@El_Cadejo Nothing, in theory, but psychologically eating rodents is not very appealing. I was being humorous. ;-)

longgone's avatar

@El_Cadejo Wow! How big are those things?

El_Cadejo's avatar

@longgone 20–30in not counting the tail and can weigh up to 30lbs. They’re the third largest rodent.

longgone's avatar

^ So cool. Which two are bigger? Capybaras?

El_Cadejo's avatar

Capybaras are the largest and I’m honestly not sure what the second is, internet is too slow for me to look it up.

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

I bought a red lipstick. I normally wear more subtle shades. I had three glasses of wine last night and went shopping and decided I fancied a beautiful red lippy for Christmas day. Red is my favourite colour. I went to a make-up counter to get advice on the best red for my skin tone.

longgone's avatar

@El_Cadejo Google says it’s the beaver. The other two are more interesting, then.

Coloma's avatar

I love Beavers and Capybaras. Save the Beavers & Capybaras.:-(

El_Cadejo's avatar

@longgone Ya know…. I think beaver was such an obvious answer I didn’t even consider it. It’s like you said the other two are more interesting, “exotic” if you will, beaver just seems so “meh” in comparison :P

longgone's avatar

@Coloma I’m fine with beavers, they are pretty special – I’m just used to them.

@El_Cadejo Exactly.

ibstubro's avatar

I’m on my way to eat Uttapam.
I first even heard of it about ½ hour ago.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@ibstubro My one Indian friend gave that to me a few times, I thought it was delicious. Enjoy.

Being in school, I have a lot of first time moments. We learned how to read 12 lead EKGs this semester and I had the opportunity at work to read one and catch a ST elevation the attending physician missed the other day.

Dutchess_III's avatar

This question hurts my brain!

jca's avatar

Eating beavers? I’m sure that’s not a first for many men hahaha!

ibstubro's avatar

I watched the first episode of “Big Valley”, and got to hear Heath declare that he was a “Bastard” on what would have been prime time TV. I doubt that episode was re-run for the after-school, afternoon crowd. lol
We loved the show, but I was unaware that Heath was illegitimate. And Victoria was pretty passive early on, only getting to put the moral to the end of the story. I remembered her as a spitfire.

Coloma's avatar

Haha..I just spent 5 minutes grinding up the remains of a giant bowl of black bean & corn salad in the garbage disposal that one of our New years guests brought.
Shhh…don’t tell how much I hate that stuff lol
I just took the trash can up to the main road for pick up so had no choice but to grind this stuff up. Nobody ate this salad, sorry…epic fail. lol
