What would you do, save a life maybe or protect your own safety?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) November 13th, 2014

You somehow ended up on the fringes of the “rough side of town”, because of detours, getting lost; it was the short cut to the theater, etc. Waiting at a stoplight someone runs up to your car frantically asking you for a ride out of the area. You look pass the person to see 5–7 people spill out of an alley running pell-mell in the direction of the intersection you are at brandishing bats, clubs, length of pipes, heavy chains, etc. What do you do, hit the gas leaving the person to escape on their own, let then in and drive them at least out of harm’s way, drive up a block leaving them and acting as a witness while you dial 911? Does the age or sex of the person determine if you will give them any help or let them get beat down? If or who your passengers are determine the amount of help if any the pursued would get? Would you simply think it is “every man for himself”? You are not going to risk getting in any mess for anyone, no matter how bad they might need it. Do you drive off and convince yourself it was a scam to rob you and go about your business, thinking no more about it. What would you do?

Sounds more like a scene out of a bad movie.
But until in that situation I really don’t know how I would react .

Where I live, the rough side of town would be just the place that they would pull a scam like that. I would let the “victim” in, they would pull a gun and the rest of the crew would ask me for my money and my car.
I would back off about 20 yards and see what happened. Then I would decide.

I’m with squeek. It could go either way.

@josie And when you did, they caught the person wanting a ride and went Neanderthal on them, beating them like a rented mule? What is your next step?

@Hypocrisy_Central

Call the cops on my cell phone, then…
Reach to the floor in the back seat where I always keep a baseball bat and a Ka-Bar knife and go get busy.

I’d tell everyone to stop, calm down & ask WWJD?
Then, after only a short time of peaceful reflection, i’d hand out candy & send them on their way.

@ucme add some VODKA as well and that might just work . :)

@SQUEEKY2 Not at all, they’re most likely lost little boys who just want a hug, maybe some 7UP?

SQUEEKY2's avatar

It’s easy to say I’d save the person. That is how I see it in my mind. However, I saw a woman shot in the head during a hijacking, I drove away like mad. I also saw a woman being stabbed and I also drove away. I reckon I’m a scared shit by all evidences.

@LornaLove I guess that explains it, being in western Canada never seen anything that harsh.

In truth the times I have gotten involved it really wasn’t my idea. I was moving forward toward the action before my brain knew what I was doing. In this case, I’d probably willingly and knowingly go to help the victim.
