Is it true that conjoined twins may taste and feel the same things?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46811points) November 13th, 2014

From this link

“Conjoined twins have the possibility of seeing, hearing, feeling, or tasting what the other twin feels, sees, hears, or tastes because of the neurological connection conjoined twins share. A study of conjoined twins showed that one twin could see the television through her sister’s eyes and taste what her sister was eating even though she wasn’t eating the same thing.”

I’ve heard this can be true, I’d be curious myself to know if it really is.

If they say so, I guess it just could be true.
Fascinating on the one hand, irrelevant for most of us on the other.

So…..when Chang Bunker busted a nut after his wife performed fellatio on him, his conjoined brother Eng Bunker busted a nut too, getting a de facto head job from his SIL?

Only if they share a common brain and/or nervous system

I wondered that too, @kritiper.

No idea. Sorry.

I think it would be dependent on what they share. As @kritiper mentions, if they share a common brain and/or nervous system, then the signals that are going on for one would be going on for the other as well. It would be interesting to see if they have studied different sets of conjoined twins to see exactly how much sensation they share and to see where the divide is.

One of the most interesting cases along these lines is that of Abby and Brittany Hensel.

Their heads and brains are separate but they share one body and they have two of certain organs and yet share others.

Even tho they each have a heart, they share the same circulatory system so that medication taken by one also affects the other.

Since they have only two arms and legs (NOT TWO EACH) there is an intricate degree of coordination between them to do things like playing softball, running, driving a car, riding a bike and typing since each twin controls one of the arms and legs.

You can find clips of interviews with them on YouTube and there was a documentary special done with them for TLC.

They also have a Facebook page.

They are two fascinating young ladies with a good sense of humor and are marvelously normak and well adjusted, all things considered.
