Yeah, this was sadly expected.

Yes… Don Lemon from CNN got tear gassed. I’m switching to music and not going to watch.

No one is as informed about the events in Ferguson as the members of the grand jury. If they felt the evidence didn’t support the changes, we’ve got to respect their decision.

Note that Wilson refers to Brown as it and that he looked like a demon.

In the summer, when these events unfolded, I heard on a few news outlets that the cop got punched in the nose and went to the ER for that. Cops that I know say they can understand this cop’s decision. This cop had a clean record before this – clean as far as his employment goes, I mean. We can only trust that the Grand Jury decision was made with all the evidence which it seems to have been. It can’t be made with emotion, it has to be made with logic. It can’t be made to please the public, it has to be made according to what they heard. It seems that it was.

I watched the live stream of the riots last night. I was watching it live when the DA announced the decision. I put my hand up to my mouth and said “oh no oh no” and kept watching the live stream as he kept talking. Saw the protesters go from standing and listening to being angry and moving around more to “ROAR HULK SMASH”.

Okay, in all seriousness, it was awful. Made me lose more hope in humanity, sadly.

I have to say, I know some people who think it’s racist that people were expecting a huge backlash because “angry black peoples” and called the National Guard. Me thinks there are some rioters who maybe felt the same way…yet proceeded to destroy everything in their path.

I don’t get it. If you want to fight racism and not be labelled under certain offensive stereotypes than perhaps it would be a good idea to not. participate. in. those. stereotypes. Like looting and burning your own city. just a thought, guys

@jca These are the pictures of Wilson’s injuries which were shown to the jury.

I wish I had more of an idea of what was going on. I stopped at the fact that the police had a gun.

gondwanalon's avatar

@dxs I’ve never seen a cop in the the U.S.A. that didn’t carry a hand gun. It really doesn’t matter what your skin color is when you slug a cop in the face and attempt to take his gun. The result of such activity will likely end in your death.

jca's avatar

@Haleth: Yes, I heard he got punched in the face.

dxs's avatar

@gondwanalon Unfortunately neither have I.

Just saw a news story that the police are gearing up for more looting and burning tonight. They only come out at night? That tells me they aren’t really protesting, they are simply looters and looking for any reason to pilage and burn.

I’m watching it on the reddit feed, I went to uni there and worked in Brooklyn, Illinois. (East st.Louis). Even then, the racial tension was thick enough to cut with a knife. Feel sorry for the people there.

Sometimes I’m so grateful I wasn’t born in the middle of the country. Just kidding.

But yea I checked it out, but not for long because I’m sure we all saw this coming a mile away and it’s just painful to watch.

talljasperman's avatar

They can go for a wrongful death lawsuit. Like what happened in the OJ Simpson trial.

@Blackberry The west coast isn’t so safe. Have heard of the Watts L.A. riots of 1965? The blacks burned 100 square blocks and it lasted 6 days. How about the 1992 Rodney King L.A. riots Yes that’s right, the blacks burned 300 buildings that left 9 people dead (mostly blacks). Lots of looting too.

Anyone who didn’t see the Ferguson riots coming is either ignorant, or has amnesia.

You know… a lot of people are complaining about the protests/ looting there. What are you supposed to do when the government, and the law itself, have let you down? America was founded on disobedience to an unfair government. The British colonial policies that set off the revolutionary war were all perfectly legal, based on their laws… that doesn’t mean they were right.

Now we’ve ruled that Michael Brown’s killing was legal and reasonable. Imagine if an unarmed 18-year-old from your community was killed by a police officer, who wasn’t held accountable in any way. That’s a much bigger wrong than colonial taxes… but we overthrew an entire government over taxes. That sort of independence and rebelliousness is something that Americans are proud of; we consider it part of our national character. It’s happening again now.

It’s easy to distance yourself from something if you can’t imagine it happening to you. A lot of people talk about the stuff Mike Brown is said to have done that day. Like, the Ferguson police department claimed that he shoplifted, or that he had weed in his system. Those stories were leaked after the killing but before the investigation. Everyone I grew up with has done stuff like that. I literally know a guy who threw up on a cop, while being questioned about underage drinking.

People are acting like Brown was a dangerous criminal; he was just a normal kid. Everyone is so disturbingly okay with the fact that he was killed. I get where the protesters are coming from.

You must be fucking shitting me.

No pictures taken due to the batteries in the camera be dead. This was so fixed it is a fucking joke. The romping ground of these racists needs to burn.

@Haleth Normal kids know right from wrong and they don’t rob stores or attack cops. Yes I’m OK with a cop defending his community and himself.
