Rerout an IR signal to a receiver from a remote?

Asked by XCNuse (1197points) July 11th, 2008

How to explain this…

Okay on devices that have remotes, they typically have a black translucent plastic cover which is used by infrared remotes. Is there any way, to take something like fiber optics, and route the IR signal from a remote, to something not visible (ei behind a cabinet).

My problem is, is we have a tivo, but it sits behind a door, and we don’t really want to turn the doors into a mesh door, so I want to route something that can take the signal the remote gives off, and send it to the IR sensor on the tivo receiver.

In theory yes it makes sense, but does anyone know if it’s possible without plastic or anything of the sort?
