Is this just me being paranoid about downloading? (details inside)

Asked by rojo (24179points) January 9th, 2015

I posted a want ad on Craigslist looking for an 8mm projector (I found some old home family movies from 1964).
Someone replied, sending some pics with their response to my phone saying if this met my requirements I could have it.

These pics were on Winpix and I could not view them on my phone, it says “Flash image type not supported. Try viewing this page from a desktop or laptop computer.”

If I try it on a computer it tells me that “Adobe flash update for 34.0 is required” and gives an install button.

I am reluctant to push the install button.

I have looked up the update online and could download it from a different sites but it also appears there are possible problems with it.

Any suggestions?

Am I just being overly paranoid?

Someone sent you links to photos and it required you to view through some Flash-dependent proprietary interface? No way. This would be like me sending you this comment via a link that requires an exectuable to read.

That was my thoughts (although more elequently stated). I texted back and asked them to send the photos to me in a different format.

We shall see.

PS, consider taking your 8mm film to a camera or video store, see if they can dump them to CD.

@Dutchess_III That is what my plan is, I was wanting to see them first, to see if they were still any good before I spent the money; they are over fifty years old but may have footage of my grandmother and family on them. They were originally sent by her so I am hoping.
