Is my dog being passive aggressive?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46807points) January 17th, 2015

Some of you may remember a Q I asked a few months ago about Dakota seeming to be afraid to go outside. She got over that when one night she brought a big old possum up on to the deck. Rick got rid of it, and she’s been OK ever since. However, she learned then that I won’t force her to go outside.

Ever since then it’s like she’s playing head games with me! Dutchess will ask to go outside. Used to be they always went out together, but since that incident Dakota won’t go stand next to Dutchess. Instead she’ll just lay there where ever she’s laying. Then, 10 seconds after I let Dutchess out Dakota will go to the door and want out.

Just now that happened. Let Dutchess out. Dakota just looked at me when I asked her if she wanted out too. So I let Dutchess out alone. 10 seconds later Dakota got up and stood by the door. But when I opened the door to let her out, she turned away and walked back into the living room!

Can’t get mad. She’s been The World’s Best Dog for all these years, and if she wants to play some games, so be it.

Is she doing this for fun do you suppose?

What is wrong with dog questions?

Nothing. Just funny after all the grandchildren questions. But to answer, I don’t think dogs have it in them to work out passive-aggressive behavior; she just may be getting old and senile. Or tired of being sat on and this is her revenge. :-)

it’s age-related indecision.

Yeah – don’t you have that “Do I really need to get up and pee?” feeling in the middle of the night?

Particularly when 12 lbs of sleeping cat is lying on my bladder.

That could make it more urgent!

Dogs are allowed to change their minds too you know.

And change it back. And change it again. And change it back. All in the space of 10 seconds, just like a cat!
