Do I need to get a new W2?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46811points) January 25th, 2015

I’m doing my daughter’s taxes and one company she worked for in 2014 misspelled her name on the W2. They left out the last letter in her name. She asked the company earlier to correct it, but they never did.

Would the IRS be more likely to go off the SS number for verification?

My buddy is a CPA and I just gave him a call about this. He said there is chance it might get kicked off to a manual review (computers do all the work off scanning and so on). It might just take a few extra days but shouldn’t be a problem.

@Dutchess_III I will have two different names on my W2s this year because I changed my name mid-year. The accountant said it would not be a problem; they will use the SS number.

I called the State. They said the same thing.
