What is the biggest distinction between these two words?

Demanding and commanding are fairly similar. But I feel commanding implies authority whether official or just assumed. Demanding I often equate with needy.

Do you agree? Also if you do what trait exemplifies one vs the other?

Demanding strikes me as much more demeaning than commanding. Usually if someone is commanding something, they have the authority to do so. However if someone is demanding, then it is with an assumed authority that doesn’t necessarily exist.
