How do you brush your teeth?

Asked by zenzen (4082points) February 5th, 2015

Or tooth, as the case may be.

Do you brush for two minutes? Twice a day? Use a mouthwash? Use an alcolo based mouthwash? Use a twig and baking soda?

Explain your rationale please.

I wipe my crowns with a kleenex rinse with water. Floss and just clean my teeth random with a toothbrush and then cup my hands and rinse again. then dry off with a towel.

I brush my teeth twice a day with an electric toothbrush, once in the morning and once before I go to bed. I’ve been in that habit for a long time (and I always floss). I never really use mouthwash though, doesn’t seem necessary.

I use an electric toothbrush and usually brush 4 times a day. I also floss once a day and use mouthwash each time. I know… a bit extreme.
I think the reason I brush so often is because 25 years ago when I was a smoker, I always worried about smokers breath and brushed several times a day.

I use a regular toothbrush and Crest 3D whitening toothpaste every morning and at night (usually) and use mouthwash with no alcohol. I don’t time how long I brush, I just make sure I get all surfaces of my mouth thoroughly, including my tongue, gums, and inside of my cheeks. I don’t floss, which I know is bad, but I can’t seem to make it a habit.

I use one of those fancy Oral B Braun electric toothbrushes like @LuckyGuy has. You turn it on, start brushing one portion of your mouth and after a while it beeps, telling you to move to a new quadrant. It’s cool because you get a really good brush, mindlessly. Bad thing is they’re about $120. Luckily I bought mine new-in-the-package at Goodwill for $20.

I love this stuff, and you can buy it now for $1 at The Dollar Tree. Takes up about as much space as the bowl of a teaspoon.

@ibstubro has a great memory. Like he said, I have the Oral B Braun. I brush at least 3x per day after meals and after coffee. I’ll do a quick 30 second brush when I get up. I rinse and spit and then do another 30 second brush and leave most of the toothpaste in. I figure if there is any active ingredient letting it stay in my mouth will give it time to work.

I have the ‘paying attention’ curse.

Brush vigorously for several minutes. rinse. spit, done. 2 x daily. Bad at flossing, but drink lots of water and have good teeth. My dentist always says what good care I take and I laugh because it is pretty minimal.

I’m just lucky to have good teeth.

Electric Oral B Braun also. I do the two-minute routine before breakfast and at bedtime. Duing the day will take an occasional jab with a soft toothbrush to get out the gunk, if I am home

One flossing and one or two rounds of these little, GUM mini-tooth brush gadgets that I just discovered and love. They provide the means to brush the surfaces in-between the teeth.

Sadly, for most of my life, not good enough. I brush well twice a day now but the damage has already been done.

I brush twice a day with an electric toothbrush. I have a Warterpik toothbrush which has a brush and a waterpik. In the evening I often use the waterpik instead of flossing. I don’t like using floss but I find the waterpik really great.

I have an electric toothbrush I use twice a day. I also use a small bristle brush like tool for between a couple of teeth.

Not carefully enough. Always in a hurry and done in a superficial way. I am paying the price for this literally and metaphorically!

I use an electric toothbrush twice a day. It is set up to turn off automatically after two minutes. To keep things interesting, I try to guess when it will stop. I have gotten pretty good. I can usually guess within about 10 seconds. I use mouthwash and floss once a day.

I use a regular toothbrush 2–4 times a day. I always brush every surface including tongue, roof of my mouth and inside the cheek.

I brush my teeth twice a day, after meals, and I use an electrical toothbrush. There’s just something about using an electrical toothbrush that might be more psychological, but it makes my teeth feel cleaner. And I brush for about a minute to two minutes. I know I should use floss as well, but admittedly I don’t.

chyna's avatar

@mikeEloff I asked my hygenist and she said an electric toothbrush was better, so it’s not your imagination.

ibstubro's avatar

@MikeEloff if you buy some floss picks and stash then in the change compartment of your car, next to your bed, etc. you can floss while waiting for traffic, reading, etc. It doesn’t have to be part of your bathroom ritual any more.

MikeEloff's avatar

@chyna Oh cool, glad to know, It really does make my teeth feel cleaner hey. @ibstubro that is a good idea, don’t know if I will actually end up doing it, just being honest now, but I think I should probably give it a try hey.

ibstubro's avatar

You can buy a decent sized package of floss picks at the Dollar Tree, @MikeEloff. Once you start, they can be very habit-forming, if not addictive.

Oral B toothbrush, and just some random toothpaste you can get easily in mart. I brush teeth twice a day.

Thoroughly and floss too.
