Do your personal standards of hygiene differ if you are not planning to go out all day?

Asked by jca (36062points) February 9th, 2015

If you are planning to stay home all day, do you still take a shower? Do you put on “outdoor clothes” or do you wear more casual clothes (like sweats) around the house, if you’re not going anywhere? Whatever you do when you are going out, do you do the same hygiene routine when you are staying home?

I’m wearing the same clothes since Feb 1st. I take many showers a day. For the warmth on my back.

I’m sitting here in my robe and I haven’t had a shower yet. I’ll get to it but I’m here on my own and not in any hurry. So yes my personal hygiene differs if I’m staying home all day. I’m dreading video phones ever becoming the norm!

Sometimes if I know if I am going out to work on the car or have heavy chores in the morning I may delay or skip my shower if I’m not going out. My wife demands I wear clothes from a specific set to work on the car and do chores with. Especially working on the Diesel.
That oil doesn’t seem to wash out.

Most of the time, definitely yes. I live alone with the dogs, they don’t care if I’m a little pungent (they kind of like it!) and in my sweats all day. Lately, with so many snow days, I really get sloppy on the “don’t leave the house” days.

If I am going to be home no shoes and no bra. Clothes are less “good.”

Yes, home all day, especially stormy days and I will shower or freshen up ( brush teeth, wash face, perfume the other parts ) and then put on new PJs, sweat pants and a cozy top or in the summer a sundress. No bra, no makeup, no worries.
Shower before bed instead of the morning, although I do both a lot of the time anyway.
Clearly the “no bra” theme is a huge comfort factor for us girls. haha

I take a shower, but it might be much later in the day if I’m staying home all day. I probably won’t bother to wash my hair. The hair isn’t really a hygiene thing, I think it’s good to skip a day here and there.

If I’m home all day, even after I shower, I might get right back into loungewear or sweats, and no bra most likely.

9 times out of 10 I’d still brush my teeth in the morning, but once in a while I might not until I shower. It’s more like a mishap when that happens then a regular stay at home scenario.

I work from home, so I don’t leave the house daily, but every few days or so. When I stay home, I shower later in the day, usually mid-morning or after working out, then tend to spend the day in yoga pants and a t-shirt. That’s the best outfit for transferring between work and housework. If I have a videoconference, I swap shirts and put on something professional, then go back into tees when the meeting’s over. Even while staying home, I wear shoes—the Fly Lady convinced me they were worth lacing up.

When I go out, I do change into jeans or climate/context appropriate attire.

@linguaphile I couldn’t make heads or tails if that site. Why shoes? Do you wear special indoor shoes?

I never wear shoes in my house, except in rare occasion for a special party. I wear naked feet, socks, or slippers.

I never wear shoes at home either. The only exception would be in winter if my feet are cold. I might stick on some socks. I own slippers but they’re almost in perfect condition they’ve been worn so rarely.

Hygiene, I shower, shave and brush my teeth every day. Maybe 3 days a year I skip one of the three.

Attire is totally different. I’ll shower, shave, deodorize, then put on the same old stretched out sweats I had on before the shower if I’m staying home all day. WTH…who needs jeans and undies when sweats will do??

JLeslie's avatar

I don’t shave every day. Not even when I have to go out every day. In the winter I shave 2–3 times a week. In the summer 4–6 days a week.

I went to a meeting yesterday with bristly legs. I don’t care :D

Yeah, I’ll even wear a skirt with next day shadow. I just wear a below the knee skirt.

My only break in routing is shaving. I do not shave if I do not have to.

I hang around in sweats/comfy clothes/pajamas. I often forgo the bra. If I took a shower the day before, I usually don’t take one if I am staying in.

I can’t remember the last time I went a whole day without going outside, even if just a walk to Starbucks. I shower everyday, even if it is not until afternoon. I don’t like wearing underwear more than 24 hours, and I want to be clean when I put on clean.

But I may not shave, especially if I knouw I will need to shave less than 12 hours later.

richardcrenian's avatar

Nope! waste of time changing or even taking a shower! :D

I always shower right after getting up. But on lazy days one of my greatest joys is wearing leggings as pants.

@JLeslie The shoes can be for indoors only—I don’t follow the site anymore because they go insane with sending emails and reminders. Even so, I liked one part—the site suggests that you wear lace-up shoes at home to increase productivity. It’s psychological, I’m sure—but the idea is that when shoes are being worn, the inclination to sit is supposed to be reduced. Placebo effect, whatever it is, it works for me.
