Is there a food you wish you could hate?

Asked by ibstubro (18804points) February 12th, 2015

An obviously tongue-in-cheek take off of this question from our resident foodie Kardamom.

Well allow all forms of ooey-gooey sweets, alcoholic beverages, expensive treats and anything with enough salt/fat to choke a mule.

Not to steal anyone’s thunder, but bacon and chocolate come to mind.

My husband hates fatty food—and he’s as thin as a rail because he naturally likes healthy food. I love bacon, biscuits and gravy and all sorts of fatty lardy food. I wish I preferred healthy lean stuff and hated the fatty stuff. But alas, I love grease and I look like the kind of person who loves grease—fat fat fat.

Burned parts of food. I know they are really unhealthy but somehow I love them.

marinelife's avatar

Donuts: cake-type, old fashioned with glaze, blueberry or pumpkin.

livelaughlove21's avatar

Nope. I manage to stay fit while still indulging regularly.

Brian1946's avatar

The last time I had my blood tested the results showed that my sugar was a little high, so disliking any food containing processed carbs would be convenient.

ibstubro's avatar

Well, @keobooks, and least they two of you should “lick the platter clean!”
I’ve been using ridiculous amounts of cheese, whipping cream and butter lately!

I don’t know that all the burned parts are necessarily bad for you, @Mimishu1995. My sister and I always fought over them when I was a kid…the burned (overly browned, not black) parts tend to have more flavor. We even competed for the burnt potato chips. lol

Yum, @marinelife. I’m largely safe there, as nearly everyone I know thinks those ridiculous glazed things are donuts. Easily declined.

@livelaughlove21 You’ll likely grow out of it, eventually. lol I could eat buffet to explosion up into my 40’s without gaining.

I’m not even sure what processed carbs are, @Brian1946. (And I’m fairly certain at this point that I don’t want to know!)

Awww, come on, @janbb. Not even a bit of licorice? We’ll give you a pass on sugar-free candy…some of it’s not bad. (Ringing endorsement)

You might, maybe be able to get by without most sugar today with the proliferation of sweeteners, artificial and non, @anniereborn.

Say it ain’t so, @Cupcake! A day without cheese is like a day without sunshine. I bet there is at least 30 pounds in my fridge. Come on over!

I can’t believe it took this long to get to chocolate, @Dutchess_III!
It was all I could do to keep it out of the question.
That and cheese, the two of which inspired this question.

livelaughlove21's avatar

@ibstubro I never claimed to be able to eat whatever I want. I can’t and never could. I work my ass off at the gym and meticulously track my calories and macronutrients in order to stay fit and attain the body I want. I work my indulgences into my goals. Regardless of age, the occasional treat is not what results in excess body fat. It’s consistently eating more calories that your body burns.

tinyfaery's avatar

Sugar. Sugar. SugarSugarSugarSugarSugarSugarSugar.

I would eat it non-stop if I could.

ibstubro's avatar

I think I’d have to say the same thing about Starch, @tinyfaery. Oh, that I were repulsed by starch. Potatospastagravynoodlesbreadbiscuits….

Mimishu1995's avatar

@ibstubro you ate those things too? I thought I was the only one. I enjoy them despite being repeatedly brainwashed that they are one of the most unhealthy things you can put into your mouth. Yeah, they have more plavor and sometimes are more crunchy. They are like upgraded versions of the original food :p

anniereborn's avatar

@ibstubro It’s hard to find yummy things made of natural sugars, that aren’t….sugar.

Coloma's avatar

You all should be here right now for my amazing Santa fe white bean chili with home made garlic croutons and my amazing salad of greek olives, avocados yellow tomatoes & english cucumbers.
Eat your hearts out jelly pals. lol

Home made pumpkin walnut bread for dessert. :-p

ibstubro's avatar

Yup, @Mimishu1995! One of our chief entertainments at my grandmother’s house was getting to cook our own food and we invariably overcooked it. We ate and enjoyed it anyway. I still enjoy many things ‘a little crispy’. The bits left in the pan after frying something are invariably the best bits.

jca's avatar

There are not many foods I don’t like, so on the list of foods I wish I could hate, I would include everything from cake to ice cream to popcorn to Doritos.

<== :: ahem ::

I would love to hate cereals, breads and dairy products. It would make me a lot more svelte.

AshLeigh's avatar

Energy drinks and alcohol.

Stinley's avatar

Food. I am so greedy.

Pachy's avatar

Cheese. I love it but it’s a no-no on my diet.

ibstubro's avatar

Maybe try the soy cheese?

Pachy's avatar

Thanks for the suggestion. I will.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Are you talking about a weight loss diet or a health diet, like per the doctors @Pachy?

I changed my eating habits to lose weight eons ago, and cheese still trips me up. Always extra cheese on everything!

Coloma's avatar

Oh cheeses, well..I am splurging making chicken and pepper “steak” sandwiches tonight with melted Provolone. My heart, my heart, oh well..I am going to eat my heart out, to hell with it all. haha

Pachy's avatar

Actually, @Dutchess, it’s a diet or diabetics. I’m not one yet but my doctor recommended it to reduce my overly high blood sugar level.

Pachy's avatar

Oy, @Coloma, that hurts.

livelaughlove21's avatar

Hm…cheese shouldn’t have much of an effect on your blood sugar. It’s carbs/sugar that diabetics restrict, not fats.

Pachy's avatar

Cholesterol is too high, too. :(

Dutchess_III's avatar

Bummer. My cholesterol numbers are unbelievable. The doctor said he’s never seen anything like it in his 35 years of practice. The unreal numbers are on the good side, though :}. Bring on the cheese!

Coloma's avatar

I simply don’t care. haha
I just had my blood sugar checked it was fine, but I do have some arterial plaque, the CT scan report said it was normal for my age, nobody said I have an artery that is about to explode from blockage. Mild I guess. Sooo…I shall continue to eat my cheese, in moderation.

ibstubro's avatar

I don’t like the ones at Taco Bell, @Kardamom. I think their liquid cheese tastes of cinnamon, and that doesn’t appeal to me.

janbb's avatar

There is a Mexican restaurant around here that makes great ones – one layer only with refried beans and real melted cheese, not nacho “cheese food.”

Dutchess_III's avatar

Oh, I hate that nacho cheese. So yucky.

Kardamom's avatar

I love that crazy bright orange cheese, but I also like the nachos from Rubios, which consist of chips covered in beans, guacamole, sour cream and melted cheddar cheese, then I add sliced jalapeƱos and all 4 different kinds of salsa. Yum.

Cupcake's avatar

@ibstubro I literally cannot eat cheese (milk or soy) because my nursing baby has an intolerance/allergy. He will scream for two weeks until all traces are out of my milk. But every single day I crave extra, extra sharp cheddar. Or nacho cheese. Or pepper jack. Ricotta. Mozzarella.

None of it. Not even soy replacements. No butter, no milk, no cream. No cheese.

I did make a nacho cheese replacement out of soaked cashews, nutritional yeast and a can of rotel. It was good enough for the super bowl… not so good over potatoes and broccoli the next day.

My husband keeps eating cheese in front of me and he drives me crazy. This weekend, I reached into his bowl of tortilla chips with melted cheddar and grabbed one and chewed on it until I could taste cheese and then spit it out. I thought it might help curb my insatiable craving… but it didn’t.

ibstubro's avatar

Sorry, @Cupcake, but at least it’s a limited-time sentence. This too shall pass.

I’m guessing from the cashew dip you made you’ve seen this, but what the hay:

I admit it, I love hot dogs.
I am grilling some organic chicken dogs tonight with the works, saurkraut, hickory smoked baked beans, freshly made deviled eggs from our hens and potato salad. It is like spring here, time for a weenie roast picnic dinner.

janbb's avatar

Now I am getting so hungry!

ibstubro's avatar

Honestly, not to be an asp, @Cupcake, but I literally cannot remember a day I didn’t eat cheese. There’s at least 25–35 pounds of cheese in the fridge, and that’s for two people. (Sorry.)

I looked the link up for you.
:-)

ibstubro's avatar

I love hotdogs, too, and there are some pretty good veggie dogs.
Even better, corn dogs and ketchup!
lol

Coloma's avatar

@ibstubro You must cut the cheese a lot. LOL

ibstubro's avatar

More ways than one, admittedly.

ibstubro's avatar

It can be kind of grating, but I try not to let it make me blue.

Coloma's avatar

@ibstubro Would you like some cheese with that whine? lol

ibstubro's avatar

You’ve shredded my last nerve, @Coloma! My patience is crumbling.

If so, then them.

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

Bread. I do love good bread. And perhaps hot chips.

ibstubro's avatar

Oh, yeah.
I should with I could hate potatoes.
There isn’t hardly a way to fix them that I won’t overindulge.

Coloma's avatar

@ibstubro Me too! Oh man, mashed, hashed, fried, baked, boiled, they’re all awesome!

ibstubro's avatar

#2. Pasta noodles.
I should wish I could hate pasta.
Main dish, side course. Hot or cold, I love pasta.

Thank goodness @Earthbound_Misfit covered the other starch food group, bread.

longgone's avatar

I wish I didn’t love cheese, eggs, milk, and chocolate.
