What about your Fluther experience has changed your feelings about the site?

Asked by ucme (50047points) February 14th, 2015

I frequently state that I didn’t come here to form any sort of bond with anyone & that Fluther is just words on a screen to me.
While that remains fundamentally true, last night’s events involving @Blondsjon got me thinking.

I realised that I actually cared about the fella & if things had gone bad, i’d have been genuinely upset. We’ll almost certainly never meet & our only interaction consists of mucking around on here, but damn it, the news really got to me.

I know for a fact i’d probably feel the same with @Symbeline if anything bad happened to her & maybe even a couple more of you.
So there you go, I just revealed myself to be a big soft bugger, the truth is out & I shall probably never live it down =0}

There’s a lot of shit you’ll never live down. XD also you stole the spotlight from my damn Valentine question you bugger lol

But seriously, great question. :) If I’m to keep up with the ball rolling you started on friendship, such as it is online, you know I feel the same about you. I have a few people here I consider friends, and while you and I agreed about the lameness of lamenting a supposedly better Fluther from the past, I do feel that my time here is long gone. I remain for the friends I made here. That has to count for something, regarding what you’re asking.

Thanks to all my Fluther friends for kicking ass, I believe yall know who you are. goat immolation ritual at middle night like usual, guys?

@Symbeline Haha, at least it shows you read the details to the end :)
I feel a little left out, what’s with the twilight hours goat shit? :D

Berserker's avatar

Course I read all the details, my name was there. XD

And lol, goat shit.

I told Rick about Jon. I told him how we fight here, but when one of our own is down, we put away our disagreements and rally around and wait for them to get better so we can fight some more! It’s no fun fighting with a sick person.

@ucme, we already know you’re a big, soft bugger. Sorry to burst your balloon there.

I agree with you (and @Symbeline that this is a good question) that regardless of how detached we may like to think we are, we do develop bonds with certain people here. It’s hard not to. People’s personalities shine through, for better or worse. People also share things that are happening in their lives and how that’s affecting them. Their sharing often goes beyond what they’re likely to impart in their real lives. So we may receive a fairly intimate view of other people’s inner monologue. How can any caring human being not care when someone expresses real vulnerability and asks for help or guidance.

I treat almost everyone here with the equal respect and care, so I don’t find the fact that I care for Jon so strange. It’s just like… a natural thing for me to care.

Boo-Hoo, the nasty lady burst my balloon…<sob…whimper>

Now pick up the mess you’ve left on the floor @ucme.

ucme's avatar

We have staff for that, unless it’s an Eton Mess…yummy.

This site can really piss me off at times, but I’ve learned a lot about myself over the past 7 years as a member and most of you have played a big part in that process.

Because of this I care about you all. Even the people who I don’t get along with at times.

I’m going to McDonalds with Dutchess and we are going to wear slippers and pajama pants.

@jonsblond I have my jogging suit on; Can I join?

Coloma's avatar

Do I make your short list too @ucme? lol
I’d miss you if you went missing even of you are over the top at times.
I really enjoy the handful of old faithfuls here, otherwise, given my personality type, I am not super emotionally attached to just anyone. I do have feelings for some of you, just not all of you. lol

Coloma's avatar

@jonsblond WTF…you’re not stopping here first for champagne? I want a Fillet o’ fish please and a medium fry. Pffft!

ucme's avatar

@Coloma Short list? I always pegged you as being fairly tall.

Dutchess_III's avatar

But McDonalds doesn’t take food stamps @jonsblond.. :(

Coloma's avatar

@ucme Nope, I’m a shorty, only 5’ & ¾ inches tall.

ucme's avatar

@Coloma I didn’t know they stacked shit that high :D

Berserker's avatar

you totally ganked that from Fullmetal Jacket :p

ucme's avatar

Haha, shut the fuck up or i’ll gouge ya eyes out & skull fuck you XD

If you like the actor, I implore you to watch the two Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes. (2003 and 2006)
Ermey is priceless in these. Skullfucking just about being literal. :D

ucme's avatar

Come on @Symbeline, you mighta known i’d already seen them, several times at that.
Some fucked up cop eh?
I think those are right on the money, as remakes go, you lose the grittiness of the original, but fine movies in their own right.

Berserker's avatar

Yeah, if I were you, I wouldn’t have let it pass either that I had not seen the movies. But if you hadn’t, you woulda thanked me. :D

And yeah, as far as remakes go, there are definitely much worse out there. Like the last Texas Chainsaw they made. Man that sucked. But these remakes do a fine effort to retain the spirit of the franchise, I love em both. I have to say, Sheriff Hoyt plays a big part in these movies being fun though.

Listen young lady, I’ve got as much respect for the dead as anyone ‘round ‘eer. Hey! Get that goddamn nasty piece of shit outta my car and stick her in the trunk! The hell’s the matter wit’ you?!

Lol that’ll always be my favorite.

ucme's avatar

“Oh, look at that, she’s kind of wet down there, what you boys been doin with this dead body anyway?”
Makes me laugh every fucking time :D

Spending a year as a moderator was an eye-opener for sure; but my feelings for the site are not determined by my feelings for the various members, although I have become fond of many over the 7+ years here. I don’t always get the time to spend on the web the way I used to, so my presence waxes and wanes according to the amount of free time I have. Basically, I love the Q&A format, and I like that Fluther is not so pretentious as other sites, but not as anything-goes as other sites.
