Do powdered cold medicines work better than their pill form?

Asked by rojo (24179points) February 25th, 2015

I am thinking of the ones that you add to water.

Or is it just the psychological effect of the warm water that soothes and comforts and makes it seem like they do?

Gargle with warm water with a pinch of salt added and drink hot tea with lemon and honey for the same effect. Swill mugs of chicken broth. Cheaper and not adulterated with useless cold meds.

What powdered cold medicines? I’ve never taken them. Are they over the counter? If they have the same drugs as pills it should be the same. Once in a while a pill doesn’t break down well and never gets absorbed properly.

I’ve taken Theraflu and always get the liqui-gel Nyquils and Advil. Yes, they absorb more quickly into your system.

I like the orange flavored variety. Very good hot. It clears up my chest and sinus’ very well.

My opinion, it works faster. I used to take a powdered aspirin called BC, and it would dull the pain quickly but if taken too often, it can burn a hole through the lining of your stomach.
