Where is the outrage over cops not calling out other cops for evil behavior?

Asked by johnpowell (17881points) April 29th, 2015

Fox news was pretty big on the Muslims not condemning 9/11 or anything a Muslim was involved in. Shouldn’t the police show some outrage about their own being horrible people?

Agreed, just as with the military, the cops see themselves as a band of brothers.
Misguided fuckers, if it’s blatantly wrong, then drop that shit & speak out.

There’s no protection for whistle blowers. I’m sure there are a lot of people that would like to stand up, but they probably also have kids or a family or a household to take care of and need their jobs. It’s a sad position to be in.

I talked with a cop about this topic once (more with respect to dirty cops than general police brutality). There’s a pervasive “anti-snitch” culture among police to the extent that in some departments it’s very dangerous to work for “internal affairs.” From what he described, they way a police force generally deals with a dirty cop is to isolate them by not working with them and letting the cop hang himself (if that ever really happens).

Besides Frank Serpico, I can’t think another instance where a cop publicly whistle blew lol.

Before that is universally accepted here in the US one would see a planet killer meteorite first. Those who would want to make light if bad behavior would find themselves with no one wanting to come give them back up in situations where they will need it, and at worse, find themselves at the end of lies and setups to get them fired or never to be believed if the drop a dime on anyone else. That is supposed to be what AI is for, but since most of AI comes from former cops and law enforcement personnel it is no surprise they won’t do anything unless it is so blatant and in the public eye, they can use plausible deniability.

Officer Dibble never spoke of his relationship with talking alley cats the only pussy he ever got.

Totally agree, but I think the planet will be nothing more than a dust speck before you see that happen.

How would this outrage manifest itself?

I’m sure there are a great number of good cops that just go to work in the mornings and do their job. Not everyone has to wave a sign.

Bend bad cop over good cop’s knee, smack bad cop’s arse until purple.

@Apparently_Im_The_Grumpy_One :: That is kinda my point. You have lazy news outlets (FOX) screaming for every Muslim to condemn every horrible act done in the name of Islam. Why are the white police not held to the same standard?

We see where calling out bad cops got Frank Serpico. Four and a half decades later and not much has really changed.

Apparently, the police have something called a Blue wall of silence.
After all, they are part of the Fraternal Order of Police.

@johnpowell
What’s the difference between the “white police” and all the rest? I see none. They should all be held to the same standard.

Fox is just a money driven news station probably reveling in the publicity it gains from people hating it.

Human beings are morons. All of this madness going down because of a shade of melanin. When will we stop labeling and generalizing based on this?

johnpowell's avatar

Well, out of all the cops shooting black folks for no reason all but one that I can think of was white. He was Hispanic. So it does seem like it is a white cop problem.

Apparently_Im_The_Grumpy_One's avatar

@johnpowell
That may very well be but that’s not the point. The danger, in my opinion, is when we say things like “get tougher on white cops”. The rules of engagement for all colors are the same. So, too, should be the repercussions of failing to abide by them.
