Which of the I (or we) fought the bear off stories is/are/could be fake?

Here’s one. A TRUE one.
I ran into a bear hunter here in Idaho who was caught and mauled by a black bear. The hunter was lucky. He was FACING the bear! And his lower back got horribly raked by the bear’s claws. If the hunter had been facing away from the bear, he would have been disemboweled.

One chased me last year. I backed away slowly and she did too after a bit of space between me and her cubs. True story.

A lot of those stories are just sensationalism. Black bears are not nearly as aggressive as brown bears ( Grizzlies )
There was a California Black Bear that sat in my neighbors apple tree for 2 days eating all the apples. Of course I wasn’t going to climb up in the tree with the bear and offer it a sandwich. lol

I surprised one in my driveway one night and it just wandered away.
It is rare for a black bear to actually attack a human.
I love all wildlife and I have educated myself about everything living on rural mountain properties for years.

Black bears are like big racoons, they are pretty docile and would rather run away except when they lose their fear of us or have something to defend.
