What's the best approach to countering the noise made by groups like the AFA?

Asked by hominid (7357points) May 19th, 2015

As you may have heard, the American Family Association is concerned about the Girl Scout’s position on transgender girls, and has started a petition.

The AFA is confused about sex and gender, and refers to the girls as “boys who dress as girls”. sigh.

According to the Girl Scouts
“If a girl is recognized by her family, school and community as a girl and lives culturally as a girl, Girl Scouts is an organization that can serve her in a setting that is both emotionally and physically safe. Inclusion of transgender girls is handled at a council level on a case by case basis, with the welfare and best interests of all members as a top priority.”

I’m curious. Is contacting the Girl Scouts worthwhile to show support? It seems that most of the time groups hear from people with complaints. Do you think supportive comments show up among all the complaints, or does it just register as more noise?

Not just asking about this case – but others as well.

Yes, I’d think so. If the comments are being read at all, supportive messages are bound to be appreciated.

Thanks, hadn’t heard about this!

You can support the Girl Scouts by writing them. You can also support them through Facebook and Twitter. Be sure to use @GirlScouts in a tweet and something like #allgirls. And retweet anything you see that you support.

You can also voice displeasure with the AFA’s petition by calling them out on it.
