Wanna play good cop bad cop?

Asked by Here2_4 (7152points) July 12th, 2015

They are in the news all the time. We see officer involved shootings, and cops who dive into freezing water to save a dog. I have been inspired to see how many bad cops we can post, how many good cops.
Here are the rules:
Each story must be true, and possible to verify through reliable news sources. If the last story posted is about a good cop, the next story posted has to be about a bad cop, and so on. Comments can be posted about any of the stories in between, but must be whispered so the last cop post can be easy to locate. Links to stories, videos, etc. about the cop are welcome. Please do not rely on link only, however. If a link is provided, please still describe the story in enough detail so everyone can have at least a general idea of what the story involves.
In comments, please include the name of the officer you are commenting about, along with good or bad.
I will start with a tear jerker story of a good cop, so you can see how.

GOOD COP – OFFICER MARK ENGRAVALLE
He was called to a Walmart in Kansas to pick up a shoplifter. He was faced with a homeless mom and her barefoot kids. He noticed at least three of the kids had dirty feet and no shoes. He could not bring himself to arrest this mom, who was stealing diaper wipes and kid’s shoes. He instead cited her for petty theft, and then went inside to shop for her.
It gets better. Read here…

Another police lieutenant drunk drove and seriously injured a motocyclist.

In case you ask why there are so many lieutenants, one day I googled “police lieutenant” for kicks and these things came.

South African cops were arrested yesterday for smuggling drugs. I think that makes them bad cops.

Police looking for bicycle thieves shoot and kill unarmed friend of theft victim who was helping look for the bike (also accidentally shot another friend who was standing nearby), because of failure to keep his hands up. Then police pay $4.7 million dollars (taxpayer money) and hope to keep the video from going public. Video in links.

I’m not a fan of the police after experiencing numerous irrational and questionably legal behavior I’ve experienced at their hands in the last few years, but my heart goes out to this policeman when he said,

“My heart sank when they finally stopped and I was at the passenger side at that time seeing them get out at gunpoint again,” he said. “I couldn’t believe it that there were that many children in there.”

The driver of the van “was later released on bond and faces charges of child abuse, fleeing and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia for a pair of marijuana pipes that authorities say were in the van. Farrell has since said she was protecting her children…

Montoya (the police officer) later bought the entire family food from McDonald’s during the booking process, according to a police report.”

Dash-Cam Footage of Speeding Cop Who Killed Pedestrian

The city’s accident reconstruction team estimated the officers speed to be in excess of 100 mph. Supposedly, the officer sees a speeding car, does a u-turn, then chases him….. incident occurs about halfway through video.

The problem with that theory is (1) No emergency lights (2) No siren (3) Didn’t call it in to dispatch (4) During the ‘chase’, the officer comes to a complete stop, then guns it – as if he’s doing a 0–60 or 0–100 mph test.

Long story short, the officer was suspended for 2 months with pay and is now back to work full time. So for violating department policy of no lights/siren and killing a pedestrian, he gets a paid vacation.

I know some of you may point out that the guy was jaywalking (running), but you have to admit, had the cop upheld the department’s rules and regulations, the guy would still be alive. Remember, it’s the police that are the ones who are supposed to uphold the laws and set examples for the rest of us to live by.
