Will you help me think of a name of an author?

Asked by Unbroken (10746points) July 17th, 2015

This lady was described as one of Stephen Kings favorites in his book on how to write a book.

I think her first name started with an R.

The stuff I read from her were short stories. Beautiful verbage lovely contstruction of sentences and her stories evoked an emotional response.

This author is not new. I found her in the stacks at the library with an old and dusty cover.

The last three details are guesses as I read the books some time ago.

You sure it is not Ayn Rand?
Easy mistake to make, initial of first and last name.
I read somewhere on the internet that King worshipped Ayn Rand

Rand did not write beautiful, lyrical short stories.

@ibstubro I assume you were joking.

My second guess would be Ruth Rendell. She is a mystery writer.

Oops.
I believe you’re looking for Shirley Jackson?

After a day of teasing my brain all day and searching when i had a spare moment I discovered I had most of the details wrong. I apologize. t was Chuck Palahniuk’s book Stranger than Fiction I was referring to. The revered author was Amy Hempel.…. Some examples of her wordcraft
Thanks for attempting to help

Well, Shirley Jackson was the only female mentioned in Stephen King’s influences that I could find reference to.

Jackson’s “The Lottery” has been described as “one of the most famous short stories in the history of American literature.” Wiki
