Of what use is a die in Rummikub?

Asked by ezraglenn (3502points) July 19th, 2008

I got a new rummikub set today and it came with one die. Why? What could this possibly be for? There was nothing in the instructions about dice…

I would think that it would be for rolling to see who goes first. I can’t really think of another reason why you would need it.

It has been years since I have played but I love that game.

According to the included instructions, to see who goes first each player draws a tile and the player with the highest numbered tile goes first, with turns continuing in a counterclockwise direction.

The mystery has yet to be solved.

That’s weird. I have Rummikub and mine did not come with dice, nor have I ever played the game using dice. Was the die listed in the guide where they tell you what was included? Maybe it was a mistake?

ezraglenn's avatar

It was listed on the box and everything, but not mentioned in the instructions.

Ok, now this is going to drive me crazy, so if you find the answer somewhere else, make sure to come back and tell me.

I’m trying to find out online still.

What edition is the game you got? Was it deluxe, standard, travel etc?

ezraglenn's avatar

It was deluxe. By wood expressions.

This is very odd indeed. I have played rummikub since I was 5 and I have never seen a die used. The search is on!

A piece always gets lost from a game, so they give you an erroneous one for you to lose at the beginning to get it over with.

Ironically, I lost it.
