How do you keep your tablet screen clean?

Asked by SQUEEKY2 (23119points) August 26th, 2015

I bought a tablet a little while ago, and my biggest complaint is the screen gets very dirty quite quickly.
It is only myself using it, and I make sure my hands are clean, but the screen still gets all smeary rather fast.
Anyone have a trick at keeping it clean?

Seems kinda extreme but would this work?

I use a cloth similar to this. Fingerprints and other build-up are gone with just a swipe or two. It gets tossed in the wash every once in awhile and comes out as good as new. I’ve had it for at least four years. They also work well on glasses, mirrors, windows, etc.

Don’t be put off by the cost on that link. They can probably be found much more cheaply at a local shop.

Moistened lens cleaning pads always worked great for me.

I use this stuff. I bought a bottle in 2002 and still have half the bottle left. I do a couple spritzes on a t-shirt and wipe the screen. It works great. I also use it on my computer monitors.

I rub with my fingers. I have even licked the screen.

That is just a little gross there @talljasperman, excuse me if I refrain from licking mine.

Soft cloth is okay. I think Apple recommended soft cloth(and clean water if necessary) for laptop screen cleaning.

And I use dry lens cleaning pads.

I use dry lens cleaning cloths too. Cheap and effective.

An inexpensive solution and something you usually have plenty of is a coffee filter.

Fold in half, just dampen one quarter of it. wipe all over the screen, then dry it off with the remaining part. Streak free and absolutely no lint.

And you don’t have to use a new one each time. I’ve used the same one for a week or more.

I first came across this tip on a tech type blog and thought it sounded a bit strange. But when I tried it out, it was great and I’ve never used anything else. Also works on phone screens and eyeglasses.

Remember the age old trick for leaving your car windshield clean and streak-free? Using plain old newspaper pages.

The coffee filters work the same way except no messy newsprint ink on your hands :)

Nothing special to buy. No expensive cleaning solutions. Try it. You’ll like it.

@Apparently_Im_The_Grumpy_One Yeah, it ought to work, but it feels like overkill (and a good way to kill a Friday afternoon.)

I have discovered that the eyeglass cleaning cloth & a very small bit of the cleaning solution (both supplied for free by my optometrist’s office) works great on my Kindle FireHD tablet.

I bought and anti-glare film that stays pretty smudge-free. It was expensive, but worth the money for something I use every day.
