White people are much more aware of the inherent racism in the United States, so yes, it better. Too many whites turned a deaf ear/blind eye to structural racism, and no that they are made aware of it, feel things are worse off. But many have finally awakened.

International immigration is neither bad nor worse. Efforts to address some of the issues surrounding migration into the US have been stymied by Congress. And the US does not control “international” migration in the parts of the globe.

@zenvelo is right. It’s no longer fashionable to stand around at cocktail parties speculating on “why are those black folks always complaining about cops?” On the other hand, the immigration situation world wide is only going to get worse no matter who is in office.

Let’s see, race riots have escalated, Black unemployment is double the general population. The labor participation rate for blacks is lower than the general population, and violent crime is increasing in Black neighborhoods. That makes it hard to say relations are improving. I know, let’s blame it on the cops.

As for international immigration, Europe is seeing a flood of immigrants from the Middle East. The same kind of flood we have been seeing for years from Central and South America. I know, let’s pretend it isn’t happening.

It’s silly to think that either problem is going to improve under ANY president. After all, neither racists nor desperate immigrants are likely to think “mmmm. I’d better cool it. There’s a black man in the White House.”

Jaxk's avatar

It’s not because there’s a Black Man in the White House, it’s because there’s an idiot in the White House.

What is a “race riot”? And give us some examples. Thanks.

I think Obama has tried more than any other president to positively affect the immigration issue, but I don’t know that he’s been able to make much headway.

We have to deal with people foaming at the mouth in outrage because children who are orphaned and homeless because of war have found their way here. According to “those” people, they need to be put on a plane and dropped back off wherever their homes used to be. How does one combat such inhumanity and ignorance?

I can’t help but wonder what the Indians thought about unfettered immigration. They tried to drive the newcomers off their land anyway they could. It didn’t end well for them as they were slaughtered and incarcerated. Were the Indians inhumane or were the newcomers? Unfettered immigration is a problem, no matter where it occurs. I would think we should have learned that by now.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Humans in general seem to be inhumane.

Not much at all from what I can see, if anything overall foreign relations have gotten worse.

@Jaxk Still waiting for some information on race riots.

TIA!

The term “race riots” takes me back to the 60’s, when the blacks were fighting for equality. Lots of white folks didn’t like that. Often, things got out of hand.

Here are a whole boatload of race riots from Wiki.

Basically you get race riots when one ethnicity says another ethnicity is no good.

jaytkay's avatar

@dutchess I’m not looking for history.

@Jaxk says “race riots have escalated”. That sound interesting. I’d like to hear his facts.

Dutchess_III's avatar

But you first asked what is a race riot? and you asked for examples.

@Jaxk posted two more recent examples, Ferguson and Baltimore.

As far as escalating, I think they have, but it has nothing to do with Obama. It has to do with instant media coverage. It also has to do with things being video taped now, that would have never come to light before. IMO, it really started with Trayvon Martin.

jaytkay's avatar

it really started with Trayvon Martin.

White race violence, like the Charleston massacre, ramped up after that.

I don’t think race relations in America have changed or have anything to do with Obama being President. I don’t see where he actively tries to address any race issues, except that now and then he says how he can identify with a black person who might have been harmed or killed. Also, that for some young people he represents to them that they can be successful no matter what color their skin is.

No, he has made them much worse.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Oh please explain how Obama has made race relations worse in the states??^^^^

SimpatichnayaZhopa's avatar

Race relations were much better before he became president. Some people refuse to admit he was a very bad leader.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

OMG,and you say we are the ones that are brain washed.

SimpatichnayaZhopa's avatar

Yes, liberal media has brainwashed you into believing a terrible leader was great.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

How can we be sure that the conservative media hasn’t done the same with you?
