Which kind of Halloween candy buyer are you?

Asked by janbb (62859points) October 31st, 2015

Do you deliberately buy candy you like to raid early or have as leftovers or do you buy candy you don’t like to preserve your teeth and weight? I confess to being solidly in the first camp and control my weight by not eating anything but candy around Halloween!

Which type are you?

The former. If I spend money on it, I want it to be good!

Neither. I buy the stuff I remember from childhood. Most of it’s still around. I don’t know why, but it just doesn’t taste as good as I seem to remember. I rarely eat the candy that’s leftover. The need to buy candy declines yearly as this town becomes increasingly defined as unaffordable for people with kids. The town is just littered with dozens of vacant public school buildings that must be worth a huge fortune. Even the vaunted Catholic schools are winking out one by one. The one a couple of blocks away shut down last year.

I buy the giant bag, from Costco, notice that it’s mostly stuff I love, so I leave it in the car til I go to my friend’s house, where, it seems, every cute child in the state comes to Trick or Treat.
While there, I do scam a bit of it, just enough to ensure that I won’t sleep well, and my gums will be overly sensitive for a few days.
Oh, I do love Hallowe’en!! :-D

I live on a rural 10 acre property so no trick-or-treaters here, families take their kids to town as it would take hours to cover a half dozen houses out here, everyone has about a hundred yard long driveway and homes are acres apart.
The only candy I buy is for me, but, I have been cutting way back on my sugar intake, my greatest weakness. I could live forever without chips and fast food but I have a terrible sweet tooth. Right now I have put down the chocolate and other rich candy and allow myself a tootsie pop for my cravings in the evenings.

That is all I get, one tootsie pop to savor and make last. Self discipline sucks! lol

I don’t like chocolate, so I’m very aware that not everyone does, and that some children are allergic. So, I always buy something non-chocolate (packs of Twizzlers, bags of pretzels, or wrapped cookies).

Actually, I really don’t enjoy sweets at all, so I find some donee for any leftovers. The local homeless family shelter’s my #1 choice.

Try to do the latter; end up all to often doing the former.

I buy candY that I like. This year I also bought a mixed package of chips. Little bags of Doritos, Fritos, Sunchips, give the kids a choice of salty or sweet, or they can take one of each. Whatever they want.

It’s once a year, only 80% of the candy gets passed out. All of the special dark is picked out also.

I buy only what I like and hope to have some left so I munch on the good stuff. Sadly, this year I ran out. I will have to buy more bags next year if I’m to have some for me.

I’m not quite as generous as the Richmonds.

I’m sending the remaining candy in to Andy’s place of employment today!
