WIFI wireless switch or wifi wireless socket? Which brand is better?

Asked by Annabie (2points) November 9th, 2015

I want to replace my old switches with new ones. Wifi wireless switch or wifi wireless socket, I don’t know which one is better? And can you recommend some good ones with a good price?

I smell a future SPAM here, but in case it isn’t, I’ll answer.

Neither are particularly good. The technology is immature and subject to failure. Wireless signals in close proximity to electric wires reduces the distance that you can use for successful wifi transmission.

But it isn’t really an either / or. Switches are for one purposes, and outlets are for another. So what do you want to be turning on?

As far as quality, if they are all UL listed, then the mechanics are safe to use. So there is no difference in that. However, the wireless is not likely to be satisfying no matter what brand you use.

Further information about why this is a bad idea = reviews from Amazon

The one in particular above is hard to hook up (instructions in Chinese!) and doesn’t work most of the time. And every action is managed by a server in China.

No way is this a good idea.
