How do I fix my PS3 which stopped playing Blu-Rays after losing wireless internet connection?

Asked by mazingerz88 (28812points) November 13th, 2015

Lost my CLEAR wireless internet service and looking to replace it but surprised to find my PS3 which I used to stream movies refusing to play Blu-rays. The screen freezes each time I turn it on and the menu to go start playing Blu-rays won’t show anymore.

Thanks for any troubleshooting help you can extend!

Are these DVDs you have plated on that unit before?
Many DVD players require software updates before playing newer coded films. I had to force feed a software update on mine last year.

@filmfann Thanks. These blu-rays played many times without issues. I always update when needed. The big difference is there is no internet for now so the screen freezes even before I get to the general menu. Under the impression this PS3 will function normally playing blu-rays minus internet and connection to the TV via HDMI cable is enough.

Does it play game blurays?
Do you have a yellow light on the front of the PS3? (Early models showed a yellow light if the drive failed – not sure about later models but I imagine it’s similar).

@Lightlyseared Thank you. Yes it plays games but only played a little and not a gamer so I don’t know if the games I played are blu-rays or not. I sold them a long time ago.

Good news though. I unplugged the unit for hours and then plugged it in again and now it’s working. Hope it stays working. Thanks!
