What are some recipes for edible body paint? nsfw?

Asked by gememers (445points) December 16th, 2015

I would like to do some henna-esque body art that is also edible. I have experimented with chocolate sauce using water, coconut oil, cacao, sugar. This went onto the skin great but became flaky as it dried. Is this apt to happen with most body paint? I also would prefer something vegetarian-friendly (no gelatin), and natural ingredients (no artificial food coloring). Also have experimented with beet root powder – this has great color and is variable in consistency (from thin to very goopy) depending on how much water is used, and does not have the flakiness problem. What have you experimented with? What are big no-nos? Any tips on application?

Recipes? Personally, I wouldn’t bother with homemade stuff since there are already products on the market, fairly reasonably priced which give me consistent results every time.

I’m going to assume from what you wrote that you’re interested in this primarily as a form of erotic foreplay rather than a performance art type of situation.

I’ve had years of experience with face painting and here’s my tale on the situation.

And especially if this is going to be licked off someones body, I’d want to be damn certain that whatever I’m using has been approved by the FDA.

And there are companies who make materials specifically for this and also guarantee that their formulations contain FDA approved ingredients.

Henna is something you want to be especially particular about as there are some companies using Henna which also contains lead. I’ve read numerous warnings about this.

Anyhow, here’s one company which has what you’re looking for plus you can call them with any questions you have about flaking, etc.

There are products that might help the texture. Henna is washed off and leaves a stain behind. Is that the effect you are after? I’m a bit confused. You can use Agar gum which is very vegan friendly and you’d only need a small amount. The sugar and cocoa is going to crust.

Here is an idea. Use equal parts dark chocolate and vegetable oil 3 oz. Dark chocolate. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler, add the oil. Stir until smooth, and then pour into a clean jar. Use a clean, new paintbrush. If it hardens, just put the jar in a bowl of warm water.

Using food grade ingredients is going to be essential. I work with quite a bit with my soap making. Spirulina will give you a dark green, but I’m not sure how staining it will be. It comes in powdered form, so you’ll need to mix it with something like corn syrup and non-fractionated coconut fat. It comes in a very hard solid block and may say it is 93 degree coconut fat. (refers to its melting point). Tumeric will give you a nice yellow. Berry juice is excellent for deep purples/reds. You might have to boil it down and/ or use agar gum in the recipe with a juice so it is a bit more solid and concentrated.

It is probably going to be a bit of trial and error.

Try to find a soap makers store close to you.

I forgot to add that honey powder and a mini feather duster can be an awful lot of fun, too. Much easier to make. Youth is, indeed, wasted on the young. You’ve got me pining for my younger days.
