My mom cuts my hair- 14 year old boy?

Asked by tom1107 (17points) December 22nd, 2015

Hi I’m a guy and I’m 14. My mom used to make me go to the barbers and splash out on a $7 haircut each month. Recently she started to offer to cut my hair for free at home, I thought that this was great at first. Iv just had my first haircut by her, she made me sit in the front garden shirtless in the cold, all the people passing by just looked in shock. She also re-styled my neckline (nape) and sideburns, I had sideburns to mid ear shaved to 0.5 mm thick (really thin) but my mom get the razor and shaved them off! And my nape used to be naturally rounded, but she cut it square, this may not seem to bad but now after 2 days I have sprouting sideburns and my natural neckline is covered in sprouting hairs. How to I remove spouting hairs, WAX?

Welcome to Fluther.

To answer the last question that you asked, I’d suggest buying yourself a razor. You can use disposables, or a permanent handle with disposable blades, as you prefer. You can easily shave those hairs off either “dry” in front of a mirror so you get to see the angle to hold your hand, or later in the shower.

I’ve been cutting my own hair for years now, and that kind of trim in the shower takes less than a minute every week or so.

You don’t. You have reached that time in your life that is called puberty, and you’re going to have hair growing in all sorts of places that you don’t want it, for the rest of your life.

Wax is only temporary. So is a razor, but a razor is a heck of a lot cheaper.

I’d just let it grow out. I cut my son’s hair and I never cut it that short. It is too much upkeep. I don’t like really long hair, but a cute shaggy clip is easier. Then again my son has fine, wavey strawberry blond hair so he suits it. Maybe find an easier style for inexpensive, no fuss upkeep.

That is what all those clippers and razors are for: to “trim around the edges”. WAX? That could damage the skin where you would be using it. Wax is for larger body parts with tougher skin.

You are just going to have to let it grow out. Also if you let your mom cut your hair again, ask that she do it in the bathroom and tell her you will clean the mess, or go back to the barber. It takes a little to learn how to cut hair. There are a lot of videos for different hair styles on you tube. You can find one you like and have her watch it. Try to find one where your hair texture matches the one of the person in the video, also the way your hair grows.
I found several tutorials by typing in this : at home tutorials in hair cutting for boys.

Just let everything grow for two weeks and then you can reshape it.

My husband is 48 and he tells barbers every time not to square off at the nape of his neck, and still about 1 in 10 times they do it. My point is even the professionals botch it.

If you don’t like how age cut it and have the money to pay for a cut, go ahead and go back to the professional. Or, you can tell your mom what you didn’t like and give her one more chance.
