Can someone help me figure out how to enter a London address into Amazon?

Asked by DrasticDreamer (23996points) January 5th, 2016

I want to send something to London, to someone’s workplace, but I can’t figure out how to enter the address into Amazon’s address form. I already checked to make sure it was eligible to be sent to the UK – it is, no worries there. But I have no idea where to put what.

The address:

Department of History, Classics and Archaeology
Birkbeck College
Malet Street
Bloomsbury
London
WC1E 7HX

Amazon’s form

I suggest you use the UK Amazon site: amazon.co.uk

I used it to send gifts to friends there many times.

@Hawaii_Jake I looked at that, too, and I still couldn’t figure it out. It would be much easier if I was sending it to their residential address, but I would prefer not to, since packages have gone missing that way.

Try this idea on the UK site:

Open the UK site.
Go to your account.
Look for settings and anything that says address book.
Try to enter their address in your address book.
Order and send your gift.

I’m not positive it will work, but it might.

If necessary, combine some of the lines that are currently separated. For example:
Department of History, Classics and Archaeology
Birkbeck College
Malet Street, Bloomsbury
London
WC1E 7HX
Or any other combination that works in the spaces provided on the site.

Okay, sounds good. I’ll give it a try. Do you know how quickly they might notify me if it doesn’t work?

If what doesn’t work?

Their system is excellent. When I was doing it, the computer found the properly formatted address for me after I entered the information.

@Hawaii_Jake Ohh, okay! I didn’t realize it did that! Thank you for your help.

UK Person here.

It doesn’t really matter for the first couple of lines, so combining them as advised is fine. The Zip code is the WC1E 7HX postcode. Put London as the city. If it insists, put London as the State as well. It won’t matter. In the UK you can find an address from the postcode only and a house number or name.

I work at a university and often get my parcels sent to work. I usually put My Name – Personal so that it isn’t opened by someone else.

Go to ‘your account’ (if you have one) Click on ‘manage shipping address’ at the top right of the page and put whatever address you want. You might need to combine two of your address lines into one but it won’t matter.

Thanks, guys! I took your advice, so hopefully it gets there. None of the suggestions seemed right and didn’t match exactly what he sent me as the address, but he told me the important parts. I made sure his name was on it, as well as the university and the department.
