….I’m asking a straight forward question. I don’t mean “What’s the difference, there is no difference, don’t you think?” kind of thing.

the difference is that the first one is a criticism of guntards, whereas the second one is a put-down of the trumpet.

Let’s talk about the similarities of the two statements. If we assume both statements to be true, then it’s safe to state that both groups rushing toward stupidity are composed of fools.

There was panic about “Obama coming for your guns” well before the man was iaugurated 8 years ago. For 8 years the alarm bells have clanged incessantly as the brain dead rush to remedy the prospect of being “left behind”. No one bothers with questioning the credibility of a supposed gun drought in a land flooded with 250–300 million civilian firearms.

And then there are those allegedly pushed into the ranks of Isis through the pronouncements of a man with a possum on his head.

In either case it’s simply verification of the old adage on the timeless game of “how dumb are you?”

Fools rush in!

Ignorant people are using Obama as an excuse to buy more guns.

Radical Islamist’s are using Trump’s bigoted words and image to recruit people to fight a holy war against the west.

Spoiled Americans buying more gun toys vs Muslims being incensed by a bizarre looking angry white man spewing vitriol against them and their loved ones.

On the surface, similar.
In fact, opposite poles.

Tell these people that President Obama want to take steps curb gun sales to people that have no business anywhere near a gun, and they order another case of semi-automatics.

Show these people video of Donald Trump, and they join DAESH.

Fear of meaningful gun control in the US: irrational.
Fear of Donald Trump in a position of political power: rational.

In the short term, some gun owners may rush to get more guns before Obama’s restrictions are put in place, but in the longer term the new rules will make it more difficult for criminals and people with mental health problems to obtain guns. I don’t think that most gun owners will find that objectionable.

Trump is spewing forth hatred. Hatred builds on itself. ISIS can now say, See, we were right, they are out to get us. This could lead to more members and more violence, causing Trump to say that it just shows that he was right and then double down on his rhetoric, leading to more recruitment and more violence, and on and on.

There is no difference as both statements are examples of exaggeration and hyperbole used by campaigns and the media to distort, distract and gain the attention of those who are easily manipulated. Today nothing could be more boring than the truth and no one knows this more than the media.

Pampered Americans spurred by rhetoric.

Desperate Syrians spurred by rhetoric.

Apples and oranges.

Great answers except @ragingloli and @Cruiser, which I’m not clear about.

@ibstubro Would you you describe the “Pampered Americans” link please?

ibstubro's avatar

Sure, @flo.
Americans that have a disposable income that allows them to go out and buy a $1,000 assault rifle that they will never have need of.

This is one of my favorite graphs

As for Trump and ISIS. To many idiots to try and apply logic too.
