What if Antonin Scalia was murdered?

Asked by msh (4270points) February 13th, 2016 from iPhone

Far be it from being politically incorrect…uh-hunh. What if Scalia was murdered? A conspiracy afoot! Republicans in the Senate will beat cheeks to block any/every candidate. What if Scalia was ‘offed’ for some major case to unbalance the forgone conclusions as to the vote? American-interests terrorists! Revenge? Past votes did not please the Illuminati? What if???? Seventy nine is young. Illness was fast-moving…from good health? Campaign candidates making debate-fodder?
Hhhhmmmmmm- murder????

The Pelican Brief. Good movie, better book.

Seventy-nine is young for a woman, but not so very young for a man.

elbanditoroso's avatar

Maybe Dick Cheney shot him…

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

Antonin Scalia probably over exerted himself hunting. He didn’t look to be the most healthiest person around and looked a bit out of shape.

Coloma's avatar

According to what I have read he told his friends he was not feeling well Friday night and went to bed, never to wake again. Sounds pretty cut and dried, most likely an impending heart attack or other natural cause of death. 79 is almost 80 and 80 is pretty damn old by any standard.

Darth_Algar's avatar

79 year-old obese man dying of heart failure? I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say it’s been known to happen. Probably a slightly more plausible scenario than an assassination orchestrated by the reptilian overlords.

msh's avatar

Huhn. Last check up said he was a-ok.

filmfann's avatar

I just want to point out that, as yet, no one has said that Scalia died from a heroin overdose while partying at a gay/transexual orgy. No one has said it!

Coloma's avatar

@msh So what? That doesn’t mean anything, that’s like saying, last time my mechanic checked my car the engine was fine, then bam…your engine blows up. Things fail, hearts, engines, it happens, and everyone will have a last check up at some point or another. haha

JLeslie's avatar

Why would you think such a thing? Let him rest in peace.

Darth_Algar's avatar

I’m sure his last check-up did say he was fine. Check-ups don’t really give much information beyond the surface however. His check-up might have indicated that he wasn’t in immediate cardiac distress at that time, but it wouldn’t have indicated, say, one artery that was fully blocked and another that was 75% blocked. Back in in 1998 my dad had a check-up that indicated he was a-ok. A couple months later he was in the hospital having triple bypass surgery.

gorillapaws's avatar

@JLeslie “Let him rest in peace.”
I’m pretty sure that if there is a hell, that fucker is roasting in it.

Cruiser's avatar

@Coloma I have known 4 dear friends/relatives who said they did not feel well and went back to bed only to die. All under 60 years old. Scalia lived a full life in comparison.

Coloma's avatar

@Cruiser Yes, agreed. How are you feeling tonight? ;-)

Cruiser's avatar

@Coloma I am feeling not the least bit tired and also relieved to report no dirt in my eyes…yet! How are you getting along these days sister?

msh's avatar

From onset after a day of semi-rigorous activities. Mentioned being uncomfortable. Not sick, not alarmed.
Does anyone question what may have happened between ‘goodnight’ , to ‘gee, he’s not here…well, let’s go fellas…to Oh, maybe someone should check on him?
Not one single person had contact?
No one thought to wonder when he wasn’t at the next round of blowing birds to bits, his favorite?
Do you honestly believe that no one knew? No one had contact? No one bothered?
If you are on vacation with your friend, not necessarily blowing birds to bits, but still they were absent on a planned day’s activities- what would all but a few do upon not seeing your friend at the agreed upon time of meeting up?
An awful long period of time passed before anyone bothered.
How convenient.
How unusual.
And Cheney was elsewhere- so he didn’t try to shoot him.
Lots and lots of big decisions to be found this term.
Just a little too perfect.
Call Hercule Poirot, please.

JLeslie's avatar

People die suddenly all the time. Aneurysm is a common reason, because most people don’t live through that, while heart attacks have more favorable odds, but still not a good thing obviously.

Do we know the official cause of death?

Darth_Algar's avatar

You’re right TC. I mean I’ve never heard of anyone, much less nearly 80 year-old obese men (who are surely in the prime of health), dying in their sleep.

Coloma's avatar

Hey, he made it to 80, and obviously had a good time getting there. Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow is never promised. Best possible way to go IMO. Lights out and then lights out for good. haha

Pachy's avatar

@msh, maybe you oughta go outdoors, breathe some fresh air, soak up a little vitamin D.
;-)

msh's avatar

Interesting that this ‘loosely’ follows an older novel’s plot line.
That SC judge was murdered by a lobby interest group who believed it would make a difference in a case that was to be heard in an upcoming session.
This has all been oddly handled.
We’ll never know.
Some believe all they see and hear.
A black and white life. No grey.
Shrug. Whatever.

Pachy- sending a hug. Thank you.
It’s grey, snowing and 18 degrees out.
The power was off for quite awhile this AM. :0
Yow!

No autopsy, cremation, Sound fishy to me.

Like @elbanditoroso my first thought was Cheney. Wonder why that is?

msh's avatar

They got his body outta there PDQ. No autopsy. No real medical examination.
I’m not sure- but what if…?

Every news carrier has some sort of story on this today.
What is the big damn hurry to get him the hell outta there?
Quick cremation in the plans?
Just wondering.

Darth_Algar's avatar

Jesus fucking Christ….

Coloma's avatar

@msh I think you’re a little conspiracy theory obsessed. Most of the time if it walks like a duck, well, it’s a duck, not a wolf in duck feathers. His physician has determined natural causes and said there is no sign of foul play and therefore no need for an autopsy. The man just up and died, not unusual for a chubby 80 year old guy, and the cause of death is deemed a heart attack in his sleep. End of story.

msh's avatar

Mayhap your story.
What dullness in life.
Funny. Haha
You take care your way.
I’ll enjoy mine.
Still can’t answer all those questions though, huhn?
Funny thing about all that.
Sure takes care of a few court cases.
Tsk, darn, doncha just hate that?!?

elbanditoroso's avatar

OK @msh – let’s hypothesize that he was murdered.

By whom?

What’s the motivation?

Darth_Algar's avatar

@elbanditoroso

By Obama, and to destroy the Constitution and install himself as Emperor for life. Obviously.

Now that his lone obstacle, an 80 year-old fat man, has been removed he can began enacting, in full, the plans he first set in motion in 1962 when he forged a birth announcement in a Hawaiian newspaper.

Coloma's avatar

But wait…pretty sure Obama was having an illicit sexual fling with Scalia too, and was fearful those secret selfies of him riding bareback on Antonin with a riding crop and spurs might leak out. His heart attack was from being rode hard and put away wet after Obama slipped out of Scalias back door to the ranch helipad. lol

msh's avatar

You concentrate on the sex and I’ll go on the politics. Whatever floats your boat.

elbanditoroso's avatar

All kidding aside, who would have the motivation to off Scalia? The head of Planned Parenthood?

Yes, he hurt a lot of people with his jurisprudence and his decisions, but I can’t see that leading to an assassination.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

He would argue that he was killed , and not murdered.

msh's avatar

Oswald acted alone, right? Pinhead.
Too much at stake on the Court dockets.
Why were things so hush-hush?
Hmmm?

No one thought those PP clinics getting bombed would happen either.
It doesn’t have to make sense of whom, nor motive.
Interest groups, those wishing some facet of a law wouldn’t favor their issue or desires. Whatever.
Abortion isnt the only big issue at stake here this year.
Immigration? Much larger number effected by it. Hello?
Abortion is something I see a technicality is going to get any fallout put back into a lower court’s previous decision. Step back and review the case at hand.
No. I don’t think this issue is the causation of any odd occurances.
It’s something bigger- without too much previous history already in the courts.
That’s what my research made me discover. I thought abortion also- but not now.

@RedDearGuy- No, silly! Heavenly angels sang for him! He was special. He said as much.

Darth_Algar's avatar

Your “research”? What, inane conspiracies dreamed up by crackpots like Alex Jones (who would see a global Illuminati conspiracy in him stubbing his toe on the way to the toilet in the middle of the night)?

Coloma's avatar

@msh Do you think 9–11 was a conspiracy too, an “inside” job, instigated by our own government?

Coloma's avatar

@msh It would be nice if you could string together a few legible and sensible sentences.
You opened this can of worms and now you are completely dismissing the flak of your outrageous conspiracy presumptions. The real question is WHY your first thoughts would go towards some absurd conspiracy theory not those of us that are, yes, making fun, of your ridiculous assumptions. You receive an “A “for imagination and a big fat ” F” for failing to address WHY your mind automatically jumps to a conspiracy theory.

msh's avatar

I don’t owe you anything my dear.
Why are you still here?
Go find some other person to bedevil.
There is no can of worms.
Not for you!
And I quote: “End of story”.
So -you should have been gone awhile ago.
Take your bad attitude and scat!

Coloma's avatar

@msh How is it a ” bad attitude” to ask someone to clarify their sentiments?
There is, indeed, a can of worms, one that you opened and now you stick your head in the sand like an Ostrich when asked to explain WHY your thoughts automatically turn to conspiracy theory. My theory? You’re a couple slices short of a loaf.

msh's avatar

This coming from you- I’m crushed.
Feel better now?

gorillapaws's avatar

I’m trying to come up with a liberal group with a case that may be facing the supreme court that was willing to assassinate a justice to win and not finding much to go off of. It’s usually the conservatives that do the assassinating, not the liberals (liberals are too busy smoking pot, hugging trees, and holding hands for that kind of stuff).

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

Maybe a trump supporter got a little too active.

msh's avatar

That’s my point from before.
Don’t assume it’s all about abortion.
It can be from any issue that people feel personally involved with. Anyone could throw the court balance off. Any loss.
What issues are the most important?
Perhaps half of the speculation on All news sources is to cause more people to think of causes/lawsuits/issues other than just their own. Most do not.
Who cares what happened? I, personally did not care for Scolia’s belief that he should interpret the Constitution as it was originally intended to be used- as a ruler for issues today.
But what if…
Some of the best suspense novels or fictional ‘what if’s’ or ‘who-done-its’ happen to be out of author’s minds and questions like such…when they allow them to be set free. Not everything has to be black and white otherwise -yeah! nonfiction! Blech. No fun. People get their little worlds upset. What happens if people have to take their heads out of the sand and think otherwise? Imagination.
What if’s -too scary?
Oh dear.
Then skip the freaking question !

Coloma's avatar

@msh Clearly you have no viable answer and choose to behave childishly. I don’t attempt to have rational discussions with childish others. You offer no rational answers, only infantile retort, so, I shall bow out gracefully,

msh's avatar

Ooo- I’m wounded.
You are far superior. You win. What am I thinking?
What in the world else do you wish or want? Shoo!
Go piss on someone else with your ‘positives’. Perhaps Facebook.
(Some pretty crappy things written on there. Some should be ashamed. But even that is beyond some.)

But. Oh. The tragedy!
I’ve asked you to take your sand and go bury your head elsewhere, several times now.
Yet, you wish to continue to have trouble leaving. Next comes a thesaurus full of insults about nothing? You’re having a bad day. I’ll leave it at that.
Whatever.
Tell you what!
Just muster enough to bow out. We’ll leave gracefully out of it.

Are you gone yet?

@msh

To be frank, your posts are frequently littered with rambling, incoherent sentences that make no point, add nothing to the conversation and bear no relevance to the conversation at hand. Perhaps if you would make your point in a clear, concise manner people might be more inclined to engage in a discussion with you. As it is it’s rather difficult to suss what, exactly, you’re trying to say in nearly any given post.

Hey, Puerto Rico had a motive to kill Scalia.

Someone needs to find out where they were last Saturday.

msh's avatar

My point between the two Scalia questions exactly.
I’m leaning towards the immigration case myself.
But it looks like the Pope’s Mexican visit is helping with that today.
It must’ve been the Butler in the closet with a candlestick- or Miss Scarlet….with a rope.

gorillapaws's avatar

Ok, here’s a good crazy conspiracy theory worthy of an entire roll of tinfoil. Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO paid to have Scalia put in the ground via an untraceable poison administered by one of the members of the hunting party who knows Mr. Cook. This is because Apple was anticipating a future supreme court ruling around being forced to add back doors to iPhone software. The fact that Scalia opposed gay marriage/rights was just icing on the cake for Tim…

msh's avatar

Scalia died before the backdoor. er- telephone problem.
However that may be where the murderer escaped from….
A-Ha!

gorillapaws's avatar

@msh The federally mandated “back door” issue has been an ongoing debate for a while now. Yes his death predated the very recent ruling, but it’s arguable that Apple anticipated that such a case would end up before the supreme court.

(I don’t actually believe any of this btw, just having fun “going with it”)

rojo's avatar

I think Samuel Alito had something to do with it; not sure what but jealously maybe, and, he was one of the ones who probably knew where Scalia was going on vacation

msh's avatar

@gorillapaws – I figured something might happen with the question of the user privacy rights and Apple came to fruition. (bad pun) I apologize, I misstated the Apple tie in. It is a continuation. I jumped ahead to thoughts of it’s SC Case. Will it be considered an emergency tied in with terrorism? What do you think?
I think they may have been stunned by this Scalia development. Everyone is/was.
I do find it interesting how fast the wagons are circling. Apple. Now Google also?

I am wondering if the government has plans to put it all under the blanket of an Anti-Terrorism Action. Then what? Move ahead and overturn all?
The tri-sided check and balance system tested?
Damn those terrorists!
@rojo- you made me laugh. Aha! It was the proverbial second (conservative) son, tired of being overlooked!
A friend jokingly stated that a killer from one of the Cartels from Mexico posed as a household staff member and ‘off’ed him- all to frighten the US for jobs building the ‘Great Wall of America’.
That one is the better conspiracy theories I’ve heard yet.

Justice Scalia spent his last hours with members of this secretive society of hunters

“The society’s U.S. chapter launched in 1966 at the famous Bohemian Club in San Francisco, which is associated with the all-male Bohemian Grove — one of the most well-known secret societies in the country.”

rojo's avatar

This just in: CHENEY SHOOTS — AGAIN

Paladin Justice also brought up the possibility that former Vice President Dick Cheney may have “hunted” Scalia.

After all, the judge was found dead on a Texas hunting ranch Saturday — just two days after the 10th anniversary of the day Cheney accidentally shot a Texas lawyer during a quail hunting expedition.
