Anyone else look young for their age?

Asked by skip2mylou (82points) February 25th, 2016

I’m 26, however everyone thinks I look much younger. The youngest I’ve gotten is 16 the oldest 19. I often get mistaken for a High school student everywhere I go. I even get stopped by cops because they think I’m cutting School. Even people that I have known most my life still ask me if I’m really 26. They don’t believe that is my real age. I love it because I look young…... How…ev….er it sucks when it comes to dating and relationships. Since I look so young its difficult to find girls my age. I usually get stares and looks from High school girls which feels awkward. I just ignore them, since they are too young. If they approach me Ill just explain to them my situation. Its hard to find a girl my age, mostly because I look like their little brother. Also you’ll be surprised how differently people treat you when they assume you are much younger. But overall I love looking younger for my age especially years from now.

Yes, Ido. You appreciate that as you get older.

NerdyKeith's avatar

Yeah I get that a lot. I’m 31 and everyone thinks I’m still in my 20s. Its awesome!

Love_my_doggie's avatar

Yes, I’m age 59, but people usually guess mid-40s. But of course I love this whenever it happens!

I think it’s a genetic thing. My brother’s age 51 but looks about 20 years younger.

It will pay off later in life. I get tired of being told to dye my hair to pass for 50. My contemporaries accuse me of moving around too fast for my age. Wtf is that about? Personally, I’m trying to practice looking mean for my age. Yeah, that’s the ticket!

@stanleybmanly “My contemporaries accuse me of moving around too fast for my age.”

Umm…the last time I heard, moving around, and being fast about it, is a main ingredient in the recipe for staying young. Would the naysayers rather see you sit around, gaining weight and aging badly? Yeesh…

I was 6’5 and had a mustache when I was 15 and was able to lie to the truant officers and say that I was a college student. I look my age.

It annoys me that I bump into this sort of comment so frequently while I can feel myself winding down. The wife and her girlfriends bounce around & dance like fiends and nobody nags them to slow down.

Oh to be 26 again, rub it in ya little whippersnapper. lol
I am 56 and am told I look younger, but I think I look about my age. Maybe 50, but WTF..after 50 a few years really doesn’t matter. I have very nice skin, few wrinkles but have had to sacrifice my ass for my face the last few years. haha

I still ride horses and am very active and have naturally blonde hair with only about 10 gray hairs interspersed, I’m happy enough with my looks. I am glad I am not one of those middle aged women that is going insane getting cosmetic surgery and obsessing over whether or not I still can wear a bikini, Nope, bikini days are gone but I had a really good run. haha

I am 60 but most people think I am only 58.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

My next birthday I’ll be 70, several people think I’m a balding & chubby 58 year old. The ask how could I retire so young.

johnpowell's avatar

I’m nearly 40. If I shave and get a haircut I still get carded for smokes.

Pachy's avatar

For years and years I did, or at least was always told so, but I don’t think I do anymore.

As for my exact age, it—like my vote—I prefer to keep to myself. But here’s a hint: I’ll admit to loving both Big Band and Hard Rock.

cookieman's avatar

I do. I am 44 and don’t look a day over 43.

Cruiser's avatar

I am 55 and still get carded now and then.

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

I’m almost 40, I can still pass for late 20’s when I’m clean shaven.

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

Most people think I’m at least 10 years younger than I am. While it’s frustrating when you’re in your 20s, it’s really quite nice as you get older. My daughters regularly have to show their ID when they go to clubs and pubs.

I’m 62, but I don’t look a day over 60, if I do say so myself.

I started to go gray when I was 26, which was helpful for me at the time to be able to enter bars … and at that time the drinking age was 18. I know recall what is like for you.

One thing I’m learning these days is that how I think I look is, and probably always has been, very different from how other people see me. Also, the age of the person looking at me affects how he or she perceives how old or young I look. So I have no faith in myself to say I look younger than I am.

ibstubro's avatar

I lost it around 50, IMO.
I always looked like a kid and got carded into my 30’s.
After 50 my face filled out, but the real clincher is that my goatee went all gray and my hair’s nearly there.
I honestly don’t care…I think that’s part of it.

I’m 30 and people always think I look younger than I am. It runs in my family.

Seek's avatar

Yes. I’m 30.

My husband has been asked if my brother (our son) and I are both home-schooled.

I’m pretty much resigned to the fact that I’ll look too young to be taken seriously until I’m too old to be taken seriously.

dammitjanetfromvegas's avatar

Yes. When I was 30 and my sons were 7 and 9 I was often told I looked like their older sister.

I’m 45 now and people can’t believe I have adult children.

People have always assumed that I’m 10–15 years younger, I think primarily because my attitude is young and I’m basically an optimist.

The only thing that gives it away now is the fact that my knees are shot; there’s no cartilage left. Hard to look young and bouncy when one is kind of hobbling along.

But my attitude is still young and I’m still an optimist so let people make of it what they will :)

ucme's avatar

I get this all the time, people think i’m 10 or more years younger & express genuine shock at my actual age, look, feel & definitely act young…well, childish anyway.

Mama_Cakes's avatar

I’m 43 and I’m told that I look as though I’m in my mid 20’s.

jca's avatar

I think I look young for my age.

I don’t think there are a lot of people who will admit to looking old for their age. I think many want to think they look good for their age.

People sometimes think my wife is my mother.

Love_my_doggie's avatar

^^^ The lady must just LOVE that, I’m sure!

DominicY's avatar

I’ve been mistaken for younger my entire life; as a college student, people often thought I was in high school. Now at 24 people often think I’m younger (my being fairly short and skinny doesn’t help). It’s never been a negative thing for me. @jca is right though; no one ever admits to looking older.

I’m selling jewelry at the Renaissance Festival for the next few weekends. I was asked today, “If you were a 30 year old woman, would you wear this?”

“You’re in luck!” was my answer. “I am a 30 year old woman, and I have two pair in that style.”

I don’t, but I’m paid on commission. Haha.

I was just hit on by a cast member. He’s in high school.

It’s too early for this.

My 28 and a half yr. old daughter just flipped out because she found her 1st gray hair. Oh, sweet child of mine. lol

I’m 67. We recently visited my 64 year old brother, and my wife says I look 10 years younger than he does.

Talking to a neighbour last night. The conversation got around to a masters swim group I sometimes swim with. He told me I should join when I turn 50 in a few years. I told him I’‘ll be 60 next year. Both of us were surprised.

Love_my_doggie's avatar

^^^ And what a nice surprise for you!

Coloma's avatar

@BellaB What a nice compliment. Hell, I turn 57 this year and just spent the last 3 weeks painting a new little abode and moved in Friday. I feel like I am about 104 today. Slept 10 hours last night. I am doing no-thing today, no-thing at all. haha

BellaB's avatar

It was a lovely compliment. Completely unexpected. I let my hair go completely silver in the past year and a bit. I thought I looked my age. Turns out people think I coloured it to look like this. hmmmmmmm
