What exactly is "God's law"?

Asked by NerdyKeith (5489points) February 28th, 2016

This is a phrase I have heard some theists and theologians use as a way to contrast civil / secular laws.

So what exactly is God’s law? How is this defined?

In Judaism we use it to describe the rules we are supposed to follow.

It is a perversion of what they think the Bible states, and demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of a forgiving loving non-judgmental God.

And it is a short hand to condemn people on things that are not really proscribed, while ignoring more starightforward directives from Jesus, like feed the poor and care for the sick.

The 10 Commandments. (According to the Old Testament.) Basically, to “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

John 13:34,35 34 “A new commandl I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.n 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

That was Jesus talking to his disciples and seems to sum up what the hell he was trying to get across. If “Christians” today could manage just that one command, the world would have a completely different vibe.
And since he claimed to speak for his father, God, I would say that this is the law you’re looking for. Or Universal law if you want to be new-agey about it.

I thought you might find this interesting.

I wanted to expand on what I wrote to say that I use the phrase God’s law to describe what religious people follow to please God. I don’t think of it as negative. Sometimes it’s some ridiculous stuff in my opinion, but not negative in my mind.

“God’s law” is a justification that dishonest authoritarians use to control and exploit other people.

Well once the “experts” provide you an explanation for God himself that you can swallow, perhaps then we can take a look at the laws they’ve assigned Him.

An excuse for people to do abhorrent shit to others.

It’s a made up concept (made up by God salesmen = preachers) to force people to do what the clergy say is good and proper.

It’s exactly the same as Gore’s Law (“global warming”):

Humanity, clean up your act, or else.
