Chun-Li alternate cosplay?

Asked by ScottyMcGeester (1897points) March 2nd, 2016

so uh, my gf and I like to roleplay and we both love video games and I had this idea for a surprise to bring some excitement where she’d dress like Chun-Li in her black alternate costume:

The only thing is I can’t seem to even find the costume anywhere to buy. Her blue original costume is everywhere – but not that black alternate costume. So I thought that maybe I can put it together myself but don’t even know how or where to start. Is that a particular style of clothing? I guess I have to find a dress that looks similar to that and just cut it at the right parts?

Could you get the blue one and then dye it?

Just saying, I know I’m old-school, but I would never recognize someone wearing that as Chun-Li. It just looks like a cute LBD to me.

I’ve seen a few variant cuts as well as alternate colors. It didn’t take me long to find a few black ones, but none of the ones I saw for sale looked particularly great either. Like most cosplay, the best stuff is custom and most were pre-SF4 outfits anyways.

But a little looking at the SF wikia turned up this:

“Chun-Li’s Alternate Costume in Street Fighter IV

“In Street Fighter IV, Chun-Li’s alternate outfit consists of a black sleeveless evening gown with gold accents at the bottom. She wears a black and gold sash held by a red rope-like belt. The outfit is completed with red shoes, gold earrings and black and gold bracelets. The outfit resembles the clothes she wore in one of the episodes in the cartoon series.

Her outfit in earlier games was a qipao with a few adjustments to allow for more freedom of movement or (in Alpha) a unitard with an embroidered vest worn over it.
