Headphone input not working?

Asked by lugerruger (785points) March 2nd, 2016

My headphones got slightly bent today, but I managed to straighten it out and when I plugged them in they were fine, I briefly unplugged them but then when I plugged them back in nothing happened. My screen didn’t turn on or anything, and it was basically like I hadn’t just plugged headphones in. I then tried different headphones and they didn’t work either, so I am guessing my tablet is the problem, and not the headphones. What could be wrong, and how can I fix it?
My tablet is a Samsung tab 3, if that at all helps.
Thanks!

There is “straight” then there is STRAIGHT. One of those may cause damage to a headphone jack, especially if it got bent by being forced while plugged into the tablet.

One other possibility though; how clean is the headphone jack? As a machinist who keeps their phone in their front pocket, it wasn’t uncommon for me to get all sorts of crap in the jack that would cause it to stop working until I hit it with an air hose.

You must mean “output” to headphones since there is no input from the headphones. Replace the headphone jack or have it replaced. You may have to take your tablet in if the female side of the plug is/could be damaged. (GA to @jerv )
