What does blocking someone on youtube exactly do?

I’ve blocked someone on youtube, I was hoping to keep them from replying to my comments. I don’t have a channel, I’m just a user.
Does this mean they cannot reply to your comments? I went onto the video after I blocked them and I no longer see their comments they made to me but I still see mine.

Blocking them, prevents them from communicating with you in any way.

The one time I was blocked by someone, I was unable to post comments on his channel at all.

Presumably it extends to private communication also.
