Was it ever explained in any of the Star Trek series' how the Borg originated?

I always thought it was the desendants of Vger in Star Trek 1.

Apparently, there is some information in the film Star Trek: First Contact and a book series.

I highly recommend the Destiny trilogy, written by David Mack. If it’s not Canon, it should be, right along with The Eugenics Wars: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh.

The Borg never had an origin story on screen.
The point is, I’m still not sure what the donut ships were there to do, and don’t any of you faggots tell me it was explained more in the novelization or some Star Wars book. What matters is the movies. I ain’t never read one them Star Wars books, or any books in general for that matter, and I ain’t about to start.
