We don’t have a Roman emperor demanding we name the new month after him?

Dutchess_III's avatar

They should name it after me.

A year is not exactly 365 days, nor is it 365.25 days. It’s some long decimal between 365 and 366 that’s almost 365.25. I believe this number is so long that you’d really always have to allow for that inaccuracy, plus the fact that earth’s orbit really isn’t perfect. Though I’d say this definitely makes other aspects of our current calendar less complicated.
But variety is the spice of life.

Right and that’s why we have leap year. But, every four years we could just add a day next to New Years day and have another vacation day!

I hurt myself laughing.

Worked with a supplier 40 years ago that operated on a 4 – 4 – 5 week calendar for manufacturing. Repeat three more times for a year total,. That drove our finance people CRAZY! “How would we be able to have month end closing?”

Dutchess_III's avatar

I don’t understand…

Seek's avatar

Every third set of four weeks would add an additional week. So in total four months would have five weeks, adding up to 52 weeks.

It’s obviously unlucky. Thirteen months? And a Friday the 13th every four weeks? Are you trying to get us all killed?! ~

In truth, I think it’s a pretty brilliant idea.

@Seek Don’t give Trump ideas?

Assuming the year would start on the equivalent of Jan. 1st, the first day of spring would be at the start of first week of the fourth month, first day of summer at the start of the second week of the seventh month, first day of fall at the start of the third week of the tenth month, the first day of winter at the start of the third week of the thirteenth month.
Now throw that odd Leap Year day in there somewhere every four years, except when omitted at the start of each new century except when there is a new millennium or what ever the deal is concerning extra days…
And where will the first days of the seasons be in 50 years???

Works for me. How do we implement it and can we make the New Years Day a paid holiday?

Dutchess_III's avatar

@kritiper….. you must keep yourself up at night thinking about these things! The first days of the seasons will be where they’ve been for the last couple billion years…. Wait…..When DID seasons begin after the earth came to be?

@rojo for lots of folks New Year’s Day already is a paid holiday. Always has been for me.

kritiper's avatar

@Dutchess_III Of course the seasons will always be where they’ve always been. Except on this 13 month calendar when Leap days start jumping in. After the first leap year the first day of spring would fall on the second day of the first week of the fourth month, etc. and after the second leap year the first day of spring would fall on the third day of the first week of the fourth month, etc. After so many leap years had passed you’d have the first day of spring falling on the start of the second week of the seventh month where summer once began.

oh my god! you are driving me insane! you should start a new religion so people can spend thousands of years puzzling out your divine meaning!

kritiper's avatar

So it was. So it shall be.

kritiper's avatar

Actually, I screwed up. The first day of spring will move backwards in time, not forward.

Dutchess_III's avatar

No god is perfect. I forgive you Lord Kritiper. Amen. Do you suppose you could adopt a different name? Kritiper kind of messes up the flow of my chanting….

kritiper's avatar

My grandfather called me that. My older brother and sister called me Tupper, does that help?
