Do you like to watch 3D movie?

Asked by imrainmaker (8380points) April 8th, 2016

What was the last movie you watched was having 3D effects? Do you think it really adds that special effect or would have been more or less same without it?

I watched a 3D porn film just recently, i’m having trouble sleeping at night & am quite cross-eyed

The last 3D film I watched was Coraline. I already wear glasses, so adding another pair of glasses on top is just annoying. I find the whole exercise distracting, and I actively avoid seeing films in 3D.

It’s distracting enough being able to point out in a film which effects were specifically made for the 3D “experience”. (I’m looking at you, Bilbo Baggins’ buttons)

I am of mixed opinion of them. Occasionally, it really adds to the movie, But most times, as @Seek points out, it can be annoying and gimmicky.

I thought it worked well in MockingJay 2, Mad Max Fury Road, an dthe Martian. Not at all well in Maze Runner or Minions..

Exactly what @Seek said.

No.
The image is always too dark, and they overdo the parallax, causing everything to look like miniatures.

I saw the gods of egypt in 3d, it was ok. The best 3d experience I had was Avatar, too bad the movie was shite. Good 3d effects though.

@ARE_you_kidding_me
you actually paid money to see “gods of egypt”?

Wife wanted to see it. Halfway through the film she looked at me with this wtf was I thinking look on her face. Parts of it were neat but yes that one will not be a repeat. I will say it was unique and at least not a remake of something else.

I nearly died of asphyxiation by watching the trailer for Gods of Egypt.

I’ve not laughed so hard in years.

I think they’re sometimes interesting visually & experientially, but in most cases seem gratuitous and unwelcome, and sometimes they drive films even farther in the direction of visual excess for its own sake, than they otherwise would be. I usually prefer to see films in 2D.

The most recent I saw that way, hmm, was probably Avatar. I was sitting in a front corner seat, and the 3D made that an even worse and physically painful experience. The only film I think I enjoyed the 3D (and where I felt it improved my experience) was Polar Express, particularly being in the city of the Elves.

Jurassic World. I was not impressed.

I loved them when I was young (my favorite was 1953’s “House of Wax”), but as I got older and started wearing bifocals found 3D annoying. The only 3D movie I’ve seen in recent years was “Avatar,” which I liked, but otherwise, I couldn’t care less about paying for and watching a 3D movie in a theater. My new TV has 3D but I don’t even own glasses for it.

In the early ‘80s, when I was writing commercials for an ad agency, I pitched a 3D commercial to my biggest client, a bank. So far as my production team and I could determine, it would have been the very first 3D commercial to air. The bank agreed to let us do it, but then we discovered purchasing and distributing a large quantity of 3D paper glasses would cost as much as the commercial itself—a LOT of money in ‘80s’ dollars. So that was the end of THAT. To this day I believe that commecial would have been a huge success for the bank.

I have no stereoscopic vision so I don’t bother. To be honest I think the main point is the studios think it’ll cut down on piracy…. I doubt they have any artistic merit.

They give me headaches, and I hate to have to keep my head on a level.

I find the whole affectation of having to wear big plastic glasses (over my glasses) very distracting. Add to that the distraction of comparing what is showing to what’s normally seen and 3D has pretty much ruined the movie for me.

I’ve never watched a 3-D film.

ibstubro's avatar

Once is fun, @Adagio. Especially if it’s a campy movie with friends.

I have no facility watch 3-D here and no desire to change that : ^)

No. Firstly because of the same reason as @Seek, I already have glasses and it can’t go with the 3D glasses. And secondly, I think many movies don’t exploit the full protential of the 3D effects. Most of the time the 3D movies look so similar to the 2D ones! I can’t see any improvement with the 3D effect. So far the only movie that used 3D to the fullest in my opinion was Avatar too bad that was the only thing I liked about it.

The last movie I watched was Minions, and I wasn’t impressed like most movies.

I’ve liked some. For films which don’t contain a lot of action, they’re pretty useless.

I wear glasses, too, but the second pair doesn’t bother me at all. Funny, never thought of that.
