Do you believe we are all born innocent?

Asked by NerdyKeith (5489points) April 17th, 2016

As a deist, I tend to reject a large chunk of content from texts of organised religions. One of such aspects I reject, is the idea of original sin. The idea that we are all born sinners.

I suppose my sentiment is not much different from how the law works, i.e. innocent until proven guilty

Never really thought about it.

No. We are just born.

Follow-up question: if we are all born innocent, than what’s the cut-off date? When does our innocence stop?

In my personal belief system, innocence and guilt are merely labels we humans have created and assign. I agree with @RedDeerGuy1. We are just born, and whatever follows in our lives, including guilt and innocence, results from our environment, circumstances, choices, chance and other factors.

The whole concept of original sin is just more religious BS propaganda to scare the crap out of the believers. And what a load it is!!

Of course.

It’s one of the most heinous and damaging mistakes of Christianity to mis-interpret that metaphorical spiritual scripture as a reason to create dependency on the church.
