There’s no telling. While Trump may lack the motivation to invade Iraq, the opportunities for bad judgement from the White House are limitless. Bush is popularly dismissed as a dummy , but his actual shortcoming is more damnable. For Bush arrived at the White House a profoundly ignorant man after being provided the best educational opportunities this country can provide. And the consequences speak for themselves. So what’s worse than an ignorant man at the helm of the country? How about a loud mouthed, blustering, ill tempered, arrogant ignorant man?

@ucme that’s like living in an apartment building and laughing at the fool in the apartment next door for setting fire to his kitchen.

No, it really isn’t, we’re all very much downwind here & perfectly safe & well

It would be hard to be worse but Trump never ceases to surprise.

Probably worse, because Trump has shown himself to be a political neophyte. Cruz, the ultimate political animal, almost ate Trump’s lunch by stealing delegates and using other sanctioned ‘political dirty tricks’.

I imagine Trump would surround himself with business people and trusted personal advisers. That’s like a gathering of fighting roosters in the wolf’s den that is Washington. The whole time Trump’s guys are pecking out an eye here, scoring a point here, the old-line pols will be slowly entrenching a political agenda that has already proven to be bad for America.

Bush was just more of the same, and most of the political checks and balances were already in place. Both sides knew the score.
I believe Trump would be prone to using Executive powers to make deals with McConnell and Ryan that look like savvy business deals, but in the are politically ruinous to the US. The hubris of Trump and his yes henchmen could cause devastating political turmoil.
I don’t think it’s a risk we can afford to take.

@ucme safe like you were in 07–08? The United States is like the elephant at the waterhole. The huge animal possesses the strength and capability to idealize the drinking situation for all the animals. Supposing every 4 years the beast undergoes a brain transplant? Well of the specimen brains available this time, one of the favorites is programmed to declare that lots of animals don’t really deserve a drink, and even worse the brain exhibits a lack of motor skills sufficient to keep the lumbering animal erect. There’s not only the threat of the behemoth inadvertently trampling many of the lesser creatures, but the added treat of the monster simply toppling over and crushing all of the thirsty in the process.

@ibstubro, yesterday I began drafting a comment with its first sentence making your point about Trump’s dearth of political experience, which is only one of the reasons why I believe he would be a worse president than W, whom I abhorred. But the task of articulating my feelings on this topic suddenly became so odious to me that I walked away from my computer overcome with an intense desire to wash my hands.

I agree with every word of your extremely well written comment and thank you for saying what I wanted to say.

@stanleybmanly But then, that elephant is white

I have no idea. I know I was way more nervous about Bush than Trump, so I guess that means I don’t think Trump would be as bad.

The fact that Trump has already picked Palin as an advisor reveals just how high his standards run. Even more appalling than the choice as a reflection on his judgement is the implication to be drawn in his lack of sense in making the fact public.

No idea. I lack the imagination to predict just how awful some people can be. After all these years, I’m still surprised by the stupid, horrible, nasty, dangerous things people say and do. The only thing I expect is to be surprised.

Easily pleased after all

I predict, @Pachy, that if Trump is elected President he will make decisions/choices/mistakes during his first year in office that will haunt the US for 3–4 decades, at least. Perversions or abuses of federal political power that the checks and balances were intended to prevent.
