What is the best toothpaste?

Asked by lovelyy (1134points) July 29th, 2008 from iPhone

I’ve recently decided to try and quit smoking(: The bad thing is my teeth are a shade of yellow from drinking coffee and smoking everyday. What in your opinion is the best whitening paste?

Get some of those Crest Whitening Strips.

I’ve heard that whitening pastes aren’t very effective. Spring for the bucks and have the dentist do it. I did it and I was very happy with the results, although I had sensitive teeth for a while after the treatment.

Good for you!

Aquafresh Extreme Clean I use the spearmint flavor
you’ll feel like you just stepped out of the dentist’s office, and I have noticed an improvement in the shade of my teeth.

I prefer Colgate Total, with the gel rather the paste. The Advanced Fresh version. But as far as whitening goes, as long as you don’t have fake teeth at all, you can use a whitening kit. I hear good things about the Crest Whitening Strips.

I vote with Augustian. I have noticed that my teeth were less sparkling white and got the kit from dentist. It is a do-it-at-home kit and takes several weeks of wearing molds filled with gel for 30 minutes/daily and does not sensitize your teeth. Once the plastic molds are cast, you can periodically get more gel.

mcbealer is dead on… I use the same paste… whichever flavor comes in the clear/orange box. My mouth feels so fresh! I also use that Pro-Health one, Crest I think?

But really the dentist needs to do a good cleaning before you can really get rid of the yellow… because the yellow is buildup that your brush is incapable of scrubbing away. It’s like trying to clean dirt. That’s a nasty analogy, sorry, lol.. but I wouldn’t want you to waste money on expensive whitening things when they won’t work.

Just understand that no toothpaste will make your teeth movie-star white. You will notice some improvement. I also vote for Colgate total plus whitening gel not paste.

(Not a toothpaste) Lumineers are awesome, if you have some “Benji’s!

@bulb…I’ve been thinking about getting those, do you have them?

No, but my wife does! She has a movie star smile!

I’m a carnivore, so I couldn’t live without my gaps! My teeth are white as snow, tho!

I like Crest Pro-Health toothpaste, any flavor and I have tried the crest whitening strips, they work great, but really make my teeth sensitive. Very simple to apply, and only takes a week or so. I got them from Wal-Mart, they keep them locked up behind the counter, like where they keep the cigs. If you go to crests website you might be able to get a coupon for some.

Congrats lovelyy!

I have used the whitestrips and they have worked for me. Ive never really noticed a difference in toothpaste, but everyone is different.

I’m with @RandomMrDan on this: Colgate Total with Whitening in the gel. My teeth aren’t dayglo white (which I actually find creepy because it’s unnatural); but they are light. The main thing is that since using it, my dental checkups have been great… my teeth and gums are in excellent health – and I inherited bad teeth. It really does keep your teeth feeling clean for hours (No, I wasn’t paid for this) :-)

I have completely abandoned all Crest products, after their Pro Health line stained my teeth an ugly brown that makes me look as though I smoke 4 packs a day. I now use Colgate, which is wonderful, but Aquafresh Extreme Clean is also fabulous. And, they don’t turn your teeth brown.
