Do you still eat at Chipotle after their issues with food safety?

Asked by jca (36062points) June 10th, 2016

On the news today, Chipotle fell as a customer favorite in the rankings of Mexican-inspired restaurant chains.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2016/06/09/moes-southwest-grill-most-popular-mexican-chain/85640598/

The new favorite is Moe’s Southwest Grill. Taco Bell is #2. Up on the list are Qdaba and Baja Fresh.

Do you still go to Chipotle or did you ever go to Chipotle? Do you trust it since it had the issues with food safety?

On the radio, they were saying there used to be a long line there if you went around dinner time, but now you can get right in.

I’ve been there once. Not sure if I would go again. I’m curious about Moe’s now.

It really hasn’t made any difference to me. I have eaten at a Chipotle exactly once. The food was fine, the service was fine but Freebirds is as good, if not better, less expensive and, at least for me, in the same shopping center.
However, if I did eat there regularly, I would continue to do so if I had had no prior problems.

I still go to Chipotle, not worried about it at all.

But my kids prefer Baja Fresh. My daughter points out that Chipotle’s rice isn’t traditional Mexican rice, and the menu is not as varied as BF.

The nearest Moe’s is almost 100 miles from me. Might stop there sometime on the way to Tahoe, but not going to go out of my way for a taco.

I’ve never been to Chipotle. I really have no desire to.

Never been a fan, ate there once, wasn’t impressed, so a non-issue for me.

I go occasionally. The food is good, but a bit expensive.

I’m not really fond of the restaurant model where you stand in line while the idiot in front of you asks silly questions and debates over every little upgrade choice, then complains when their $1.99 chicken finger kid’s meal doesn’t come with french fries.

Never heard of “Moe’s”, so I’ll stick with The Bell if I can’t find a restaurant owned and staffed by Mexican’s.

Never have, never plan to despite there being one just a few blocks from my house. It’s just not my kind of food.

Were I a fan of Chipotle in the past?
Absolutely I would eat there now/again. I’m very loyal, and…well…crap happens.

Moe’s knows. AND rocks. I love Moe’s and now that I’m in WI I like Qdoba. The burritos make two meals and are freaking delicious.
I’ve never eaten at Chipotle and have no desire to try, now.

I’m not a big fan of Mexican food in general (or any other spicy food) and AFAIK there aren’t any Chipotle within easy distance so, not a big deal for me one way or the other.

I have never been there. I had not even heard of it until the news about food safety.

Never been. Probably never will.

If they made the news I assume they’ve addressed the problem.

I have a Chipotle gift card I keep forgetting about it because I simply don’t eat fast food often. Thank you for the reminder, maybe this weekend I will use that card.

I have never been to Chipotle.

Moe’s was great about ten years ago, but since they got big they’re firmly meh.

Same with Tijuana Bell Flats, though their sauces are amazing. I’d rather buy the sauces at the store and make my own burritos.

Yes, I do, about as often as I did before. The food sickness, while real, was a blip.

Well, this is interesting. I looked at the Chipotle online menu, and after choosing my local store, this message popped up:
“This restaurant is currently serving carnitas made with pork that meets or exceeds all of our animal welfare standards, but not all facets of our antibiotic protocol.”

Seek's avatar

That’s, uh, not much of a protocol, then, is it?

I ate at Moe’s lastt night for the first time. It was a coincidence after asking this question yesterday as I was with a friend who was meeting someone there and asked me to join them.

It was ok. The atmosphere at this particular one was a bit fast foodish, which I didn’t really care for. I know it’s technically fast food, but I’m used to places that are more serene (like when I go to Panera in an affluent area near me). There’s a Panera next to this Moe’s and it’s the same way, a bit hectic, so it’s probably the area.

The food was ok. Well priced for what you got. I like the soda machines where there are about 30 choices because I like caffeine free diet and there’s a big selection.

I can see if someone is a big eater, this is a good place for them as the food comes with chips and there’s a lot of sauce to choose from, so between the meal and the chips and the unlimited soda, someone could sit there a long time and chow down.

Would I go again? Yes. I like Panera better but this was a decent second. I can see how McD’s, Wendy’s and other traditional fast food places have tough competition from these places.

I don’t eat there. I only ate there occasionally in the past, as their vegetarian offerings were few and bland. It seems like there were several types of problems involving not following standard food prep guidelines, and that worries me. Not sure how they would go about training the staffs of every single store, if they weren’t bothering to follow the rules in the first place.

I have people with compromised immune systems at my house, so it’s very important to us to try to avoid establishments that skirt the cleanliness/food handling standards.

In Southern California, there is lots and lots of much better Mexican food on practically every street corner, so no need for Chipotle.

DominicY's avatar

I do. It’s a risk I’m willing to take, I guess. I’m disappointed in them, though. There really isn’t any excuse for it. Why aren’t other similar places having the problems that they are?

Is there another chain committed to being locally sourced, @DominicY
