What kind of clothes do you wear?

Asked by LBM (898points) June 29th, 2016

I am fast approaching 40 and I feel I should probably change what I wear. I don’t want to, but don’t want to be thought about as tarty.
There is no problem for work, as I wear trousers and a normal top.
I don’t go out in the evenings, it is just being at home. As I wear trousers at work, I like to wear skirts at home.
I am 5’2 and about 8 stone 7. Basically, I don’t want my SO to think, ” does she think she looks good” if I where a little skirt, and I look saggy.
When is it time to dress a bit more sensibly?

I’m 56 and a bohemian type. I used to call myself a bohemian cowgirl because I love and have ridden horses a lot over the years.
I wear a lot of gypsy skirts and hippie sundresses and can dress up or down accordingly.
I don’t wear shoes, I wear either boots or sandals. of all kinds.

That’s it. haha
Today I am wearinf a pink, green, orange and white batik/tye dye sundress with an embroidered neckline and blue Croc sandals.

Just Googled what a Bohemian Cowgirl looked like, and I bet you look beautiful. Lovely style.

Tell us about you @LBM I know you’re 37 right and live in England and have a boyfriend and your mom annoys you. haha
What else?
What do you look like, do, enjoy?

I’m jeans and sneakers and casual tops, 99% of the time.

@Coloma Well, that just about sums me up! I am short, slim ish, have shoulder length red hair, though with a few highlighgs now the grey is coming. I enjoy cooking, baking, and caring. My Dad passed away last April and I try and help people with the same cancer as he had. I am interested if any clinical trials come up, that I can take part in to help future patients. That’s me. Not much to me really, not very interesting. Thank you for asking.
You must be a tall ish lady to be able to suit bohemian style?

Work is kakhis and button down shirts. After work 100% casual. Tonight I will head home put on some shorts and a T Shirt and wander the garden in my bare feet. Weekends in the summer I pretty much just wear board shorts as I am in the water sunup to sunrise.

I ware lots of comfortable cotton and size 13 running shoes.

@LBM Actually, no, I am 5’4, blonde, blue eyes, like wearing pigtails still, have a little longer than shoulder length hair and weigh more than a German Shepherd but less than a pony. lol

If you want…here is a link for a Q. I asked awhile back, maybe we can resurrect it for awhile.

I’m coming up on 70, live in Southern USA. Shorts and T-shirts with Crocs or sandals. That’s for the warm months.

LOL…

I just realized that everything I am wearing was sent to me from someone on Fluther or my website.

Plain blue hoody – Allie, bday present from 3 or four years ago
White t-shirt – Devi(PnL), Christmas present
Boxers – Allie, Christmas present
Pants (Dickies) – Robert from my website
Shoes (Black Etnies) – Robert again

I sent Robert a Mac mini since he lives in Sweden and I got one for much cheaper here then he could have bought it there. So he sent some clothes to me from my Amazon wishlist.

Basically, I have about ten pairs of Dickies that are different colors. White t-shirts, and black shoes. I avoid logos on my clothing.

Summer: painted toenails, sandals (brown leather), black slacks or cropped pants, tee shirt (in house) and golf shirt when out . Love glitter tees too.
Winter: black slacks, no show socks and Nikes, LL Bean golf shirt, black lightweight ¾ coat when out. At home? Sweats and slippers. Lotsa slob appeal.

Your BMI is 21.76 Right in the center of the Normal healthy band .

With those specs you can rock just about anything! Your SO is a lucky guy. Wear what you like.

“People whose BMI is within 18.5 to 24.9 possess the ideal amount of body weight, associated with living longest, the lowest incidence of serious ilness, as well as being perceived as more physically attractive than people with BMI in higher or lower ranges. However, it may be a good idea to check your Waist Circumference and keep it within the recommended limits.”

Usually beige slacks, black shoes and a white polo shirt. Unless it’s winter when I wear the same slacks and shoes (except when it rains and I wear black rubber chore boots) and a black polo shirt under my black coat/jacket. In summer, a beige slouch hat, in winter a charcoal fedora.

Almost the same thing every day since I retired. In warm weather, cargo shorts and tees or Polo-style shirts in summer—with sneakers. In cooler/colder weather, cargo pants or jeans and pullovers. For dressy occasions, which are rare, khaki pants with a nice shirt, rarely a jacket of any kind, never a tie, and loafers.

casual
Jeans or kakhi shorts and tee-shirts. Throw a wool sweater on top if cold. Sneakers.

Nekkid.

@LBM You’ve made a couple self-deprecating comments in this thread, and that makes me sad. It sounds like you have skilled, well-rounded interests and are a compassionate person, having cared for your father through cancer. Also you sound very pretty!

Women hear a lot of messages about what not to do, what not to wear, how we’re not good enough, or how we need to look a certain way to please men. Those messages are SO bad for us and keep us from being our best selves. Here is my favorite fashion advice.

Anyway, I wear a kind of girly, 1960s influenced style with lots of floral patterns. Modcloth.com is a pretty good example. I have lots of sundresses, high-waisted skirts, ballet flats, stuff like that.

I’m pretty boring and not stylish whatsoever. I’m 39, at a height of about 5’2”.

Jeans, belt, t-shirts, long sleeve, hoodies, plaid flannel, cargo shorts and caps/ball caps, wristwatch (and always sunglasses when out in daylight). Sandals, flip-flops, hiking shoes/boots, runners, and socks of course. My clothes are pretty loose fitting. Most of my colours are earth tones. I don’t wear any type of dresses, skirts or floral patterns (much to my mother’s dismay while I was growing up).

CLOTHES THAT FIT.

I pretty much dress like a 12 year old boy, unless I’m going out.

Today I’m taking my son to the park to meet some other homeschooled kids. I’m wearing jeans and a Minecraft t-shirt.

The same sort of clothes as I wore when I was 18. Just better quality.

For work it’s pretty much black somewhat swishy pants and ¾ sleeve knit tops. There is a black jacket in my cupboard for going to meetings. The rest of my life I’m usually in some kind of fitness gear – yoga pants and cotton/spandex tops, often with my bathing suit underneath so I’m ready to head out to the pool .

LuckyGuy's avatar

I’m wearing jeans and a form fitting t-shirt made of technical fabric that shows my pecs and nipples,.
