The usual fear mongering, paranoia and over reactivity, par for the course in these times, sadly.

Well, we’d need the context in which they used to to determine if it was stupid paranoia, or a justified concern.

I don’t think it’s at its peak. Maybe in Europe. I’m not saying it isn’t bad here in the US. But I think it could be worse. And with every terrorist attack it gets worse.

Muslims have bad PR. They need something positive. Maybe a Muslim could cure cancer or something.
I don’t see an end in sight.

Most Americans think “Allah” means something other than the “God” in which “we trust.”

Most Americans don’t realize that Arabs believe they are descended from Abraham, who made covenant with God and from whom the Jewish people descended.

When a Christian in Jordan or Lebanon or Israel prays to God, he prays to Allah.

But peak Islamaphobia? No, it has a way to go before we peak.

Isn’t it silly, @zenvelo? I still need to know the context in which he said it.

What was the full sentence? Just saying Allah shouldn’t be enough to be suspect, but if they were doing some sort of prayer, then maybe they should be pulled off the plane, and scrutinized again.

I had a coworker annoyed he got detained in immigration for a while, because they found a Quran in his luggage. My response is why do things that will obviously be looked at twice. When my husband was flying between Colombia and Ameruca regularly I told him to shave his goatee.

Do I think we are at the peak? No. It could be much much worse. Most people are just fine with Muslim people, and don’t assume they are all bad people.

I think that the election in November will have a lot to do with whether it gets worse or is ended.
That and toasting ISIS.

I have a legitimate and proper fear of some observers of Islam.

You should too.

Sounds like Delta has lost two customers forever and many others that maybe look like Muslims.
The Council of American-Islamic Relations may advise people not to use Delta because of history of discrimination.

On one hand they say “If you see something say something”. If someone says something they have to check it out. Flying is a pain in the butt these days for everyone. I read a story a while back about a guy that got throw off a flight and arrested just for shitting on the drink cart. People have no sense of humor these days.

I remember waiting in the “waiting area ’ when two Delta reps escorted a disheveled and “red-eyed” gentleman up to the front of the line. They left him standing next to the podium and where the ramp to the plane was, as they left I heard them say , “next time I hope he doesn’t get into first class already ‘three sheets to the wind.’ They had no sense of humor.

The “red-eyed” one apparently had been ejected upon landing the night before.

This occurred almost thirty years ago.

You think they should be pulled off the plane for praying? If you were saying the the Lord’s Prayer on the plane should they pull you off @JLeslie?

OK, I read the article. Wish I could have seen it for myself.

Well, it’s FRANCE, and a whole bunch of shit went down there recently. Flying back to Ohio, which I assume goes through the Detroit airport (possibly Atlanta). Detroit handles a lot of Muslim customers. I can tell you that security is usually stricter when I fly out of Detroit than some other airports. I flew out right before that underwear bomber, and I was complaining about how I had to remove metal that I never have to remove at other airports. I guess there had been chatter maybe.

When I flew out of Las Vegas just a couple of months after 9/11 it took 2 hours to get through security. It was ridiculous. The lines were incredible.

My husband has olive skin, curly black hair, and basically fits the profile, which is why I told him best to fly clean shaven. I don’t have a big problem with profiling as long as people aren’t harassed. I would say the airline went too far, but I’m not horrified they profiled them, I’m bothered by how the airline handled it though. I don’t think they needed to miss the flight.

Oh no. Things can definitely get worse, a whole lot worse. And that is exactly what ISIS and other extremists want. And if you think about it, they’re correct. The truly great threat to Islam is not the West. It’s Western ways or modernity that erodes the basic tenets of those longing for the Caliphate and the imagined days of bygone glories. This being the case, whether or not things get intolerably worse actually depends on us. Those “believers” who recognize the writing on the wall for what it is are bound and determined to blow up as much shit and as many people as possible to provoke us into virtually declaring war on their faith. In an enlightened America, their task would be hopeless. Take a look around and ask yourself, “Is America an enlightened place?”
