What is the best remedy for the corners of mouth that are cracked and sore?

Asked by MooCows (3216points) August 15th, 2016

I had a stomach virus last week and still trying to
get myself back into working order but now the
sides or corners of my mouth are cracked and sore.
This isn’t like chapped lips. There is a name for it
but I have forgotten it. What is the best remedy or
medicine for this frustrating ordeal?

Is it Angular Cheilitis
You could try an anti fungal cream.

Carmex or, you should know this, Bag Balm. haha
Good old petrolium jelly works well too.

Make sure to keep extra hydrated as well.

Stop licking your lips and use something like Chapstick, Vaseline, or Neosporin to keep the area moist.

Actually, Neosporin would be good as well to prevent any minor infection.
I use it in my nose when I am having bad sinus issues and my nose is dry and prone to bloody noses.

Carmex. $1 at Walmart.

I do believe Lightlyseared got it right..it is Angular Cheilitis.
I will try anti fungal cream!

Don’t use Chapstick! Feels good at first but it’ll make the dryness worse. Triple strength antibiotic ointment works best for me.

I believe I’d be applying Blistex.

@MooCows It could be a deficiency in B vitamins. And/or an anti fungal topical med may fix it. Also, be sure it isn’t a sensitivity to new cosmetic lip balm etc.

^^^ Yes, B vitamins, especially B3, B2, and B12. If you spent last week vomiting and not eating, you might be a bit low.

I get that occasionally. Believe me Carmex or Blistex is the fix.

I thought of B suppliments too. I think Carmex is the best on lips. Even cracked and with sores. The kind in the pot not the tube kind. It has menthol crystals and other ingredients that lessen fungus and bacteria. When I had eczema around my eyes it was the only thing that helped.

Don’t use lipstick..could be an allergy to makeup products.
Also hydrate.

Liquid Blistex
not the tube type
keep it lubricated
drink water
keep hydrated
