Inside, yes. Outside, no.

We have always hired professional help.

@canidmajor yes, outside is a totally different issue. I shiver to think about even attempting! Does the inside take you about a week or do you do a different part each year?

I do it once in a while. Certainly not as often as you suggest. With prep, set-up, drying time, general “I’m too old for this crap” griping, and a certain amount walking away in a huff, it now takes me about 5 days to do a room. And a bunch of m&ms.
Used to be, I could do a room a day.
Used to be, I was younger. ;-)

And wine.
And whine.

I paint the inside by myself. And lots of M&M’s. And beer.
I don’t do it as often as I used to as I’m too old now for that shit.

@chyna: Come here, we’ll do a room or two, then I’ll go there, we’ll do a couple more! Doggies! M&ms!! Wild nights of drinking and whining!

I painted the outside of our house by myself 3 years ago (when I was 62 and working full time at my day job). Got 3 estimates between $3K and $10K. And I figured that it’s not rocket science. I did it myself and it still looks terrific. Like a professional did it only I think that I did a better job that a professional. I used a pressure washer and a paint sprayer and a brush for trim. I bought the highest quality paint that Sherwin-Williams offers. The hardest part was the tedious preparation work like washing, masking and wood repair.

Saved a big pile of money.

We paint inside. Outside, we have a brick house and only the gutters and downpipes etc. need painting. We are actually just about to get the house rendered and the roof painted. And no, we won’t be doing the painting ourselves.

Yes. My wife and I just painted the outside of our house a couple of months ago. I painted my previous house’s exterior, and always do the inside painting.

Painting is one of those tasks that seems intimidating, but once you start, it can be very pleasant. It’s a repetitive task that requires pure concentration and precision. You can always find a way to perfect your technique, and every single stroke results in something tangible. I can get lost in painting.

* Note: Exterior painting + high ladders + bees/wasps can result in the only danger to painting. The urge to jump off the ladder is strong.

Interior: No, I’ve always hired professionals.

Exterior: I have two lovely words to share – red brick. Bricks always look great and never need painting.

I have always done both inside and outside.

We do all of the interior painting and we do the exterior parts that need to be painted, however the house itself is not painted.

Yes.
Last time I thought I would save the heartache, and I hired a professional, who did a terrible job.

I hate painting. Even if it a meter^2 is would rather die than paint it.

My Ex always painted the interior and the porch. I never learned how to cut in properly so i don’t.

Funny. I just bought exterior house paint. I have a small house built into a hill side and with another units garage on the other side. Only two small areas for me to paint plus the veranda. I do it all myself.
