Do you own a pressure canner/cooker?

We have one, and it’s ancient. The wife inherited from her mom. We (the wife in truth) use it far less now in favor of the electric crock pot. I often think that those with cooking skills very much parallel my hot rod days induced fascination with tools and mechanical stuff. I find myself fascinated with the things that appear on the butcer block prep table or drying in the dish rack. It’s amazing how many of those things are around that I have no idea about their purpose or more importantly where the wife stores them. Some 45 years ago I grabbed up one of those kitchen aid outboard motor looking mixers. It was long before they became a common household item. In fact they were sold then in only a single color and I grabbed it up at a restaurant supply store as a solution to baking BIG batches of cookies. When I met my wife, she was fascinated by the thing, and particularly attracted to the beautifully embroidered cover that one of the girls I’d snared with cookie bait gave me as an additional reward. The wife was actually afraid to use it for better than a year. But I can remember her getting over it, then gleefully gathering her girfriends to exhibt the wonders of the thing and the glorious results of those baking days. I’m almost certainly still wearing some of those glories behind my 4 sizes bigger belt. Sometimes I miss the days of my 30 inch waist when I laughed at the fat people. For those of you with such, tendencies let me warn you now that the gods have a nasty habit of getting even.

Yes I do and usually only use it this time of year to can home grown jams and pickle veggies.

We own one and we use it quite often over winter. My husband makes great stews.

I do have one, but I haven’t really exercised it yet. The only thing that I use it for regularly is to prepare baked potatoes.

@CWOTUS, what are the baked potatoes like out of the pressure cooker? We’ve never used it for that.

You’d have to follow the link (or one like it), @Earthbound_Misfit, to understand that this is just the first of a two-step process. The baking of the potato has to be completed in the oven (or under the cover of the grill, which is where I normally finish the process), because if you did the whole thing in the PC then it would just be … a faster way to a boiled potato. The skin wouldn’t be crispy and the flesh probably wouldn’t be so agreeably fluffy as a normal baked potato is. This just speeds the process of getting to the final product.

That’s what I expected @CWOTUS. Baked potatoes do take forever in an oven though, so this is a good idea to speed up the process. Thanks for the additional info.

Yes. I mostly use it for dried beans. It is the best way in my opinion. I also do corned beef brisket…....... nice and tender quickly. My mom and MIL used to use theirs for roast beef and boston butt. I did’n’t like it too much myself. Have you ever soaked and cooked dried beans that just would nnot cook even after hours? That will never happen with a pressure cooker. I wouldn’t be without it.
