The Trump protests: Does this mean America FINALLY isn't going to take it anymore?

Asked by SecondHandStoke (9522points) January 22nd, 2017

Conflicts of interest, unprofessional behavior and speech, profiteering, sexual misconduct, outright lying:

These and more are typical things associated with politicians in every branch and at all levels.

Will the recent protests cause a single would be leader to think twice about acting badly?

I think Trump is on the right track, and the protesters are easily fooled type people, and that is what has caused this long run of ineffectveness in office by so many past.
Still, I see the protests as a good sign.
If people are this motivated to be demonstrative, it means the foul is defeated, but squirming. It can be seen by the protesters that Trump IS the right choice.

ISIS is not the only bad force out there capable of “radicalizing” innocent people.
There are frightened people, gullible people, people who can’t sort the BIG stack of facts for themselves, and bandwagon people all out there pumped into action with only a few key words flung around by press to inflame their minds and drive them to action they don’t even see is self destrucive on a mass quantity level.

On the one hand I am encouraged, because it shows the powers that be are worried enough to resort to such tactics.
On the other hand, it bothers me that so many Americans can be activated so easily in the wrong direction.
It is precisely the same way ISIS recruits.
Instead of heavily opposing the man who has sworn to strengthen this nation, they should be scrambling to say, “Hey, that’s what we want. How can we help?”

We shall see.
Voters are so wishy-washy. They’ll swing one way this time and 180 next time.
I think any and all will be surprised and frightened when what has been wrought upon one and all is thoroughly exposed.
So sit back. Try to relax. Pour yourself a good strong drink if you must.
There is a loose cannon in the White House!

@Patty_Melt: The protesters are sending a message that if he tries to mess with women’s rights, workers’ rights, LGBT rights, etc., he is up against a lot of resistance.

Conflicts of interest, unprofessional behaviour and speech, profiteering, sexual misconduct, outright lying yet the American public still voted for Trump. I still haven’t figured that one out.

@Patty_Melt You just described the overwhelming majority of those who voted for Trump.

@flutherother The election was about anything other than “Conflicts of interest, unprofessional behaviour and speech, profiteering, sexual misconduct, outright lying yet the American public still voted for Trump” Far from it.

It was all about jobs for the lower and middle class….good paying jobs. Let’s hope Trump delivers.

flutherother's avatar

@Cruiser I would disagree; it isn’t entirely about jobs, the character and the integrity of the man who promises the jobs is also important.

Protests (so large) should be viewed as a problem. It’s a clear indication that the people are upset. Such large scale unrest could/will eventually develope into far worse.

@flutherother I would never EVER hold anyone other than myself accountable for my own future especially a glass ceiling Obama or a glass floor Trump. My success is all attributable to my own hard work ethic no matter how hard the Feds, state and local authorities have made it for me to get ahead. Blowing raspberries at the powers that be and the looney tunes that support them is what inspires me to beat the odds they throw my way.

@SecondHandStoke Trump exists ONLY because Americans are not going to take it anymore! This is the total repudiation of Washington DC government corruption.

The cure may be worse than the disease.

I agree. Curing a cancer with a different cancer cannot really be considered a cure @kritiper

instead of heavily opposing the man who has sworn to strengthen this nation, they should be scrambling to say, “Hey, that’s what we want. How can we help?” @Patty_Melt See, and herein lies the problem. Obama asked (as did Kennedy and many others) What can “WE” do to solve “OUR” problems why Trump says that he is the only one who can solve ALL the problems. I don’t believe he can do it. I don’t believe he will do it. I don’t believe the solutions he proposes will work. Frankly, I simply do not believe a word he says.

Why in the world would I say “how can I help” when he has made it obvious that he, and only he, is the one that can do it. And unless I fall in lock step behind an obvious and chronic liar he will not take my help except as perhaps goose-stepping cannon fodder sent off to die for an imagined slight to his mighty ego

@rojo Now there’s a point I’ve been pondering. What will Trump do or say or feel after he has sent others to their deaths, whether right or wrong? Just rhetorical, just rhetorical…

rojo's avatar

Not a thing. @kritiper, he will feel nothing. The man seems to lack the capacity to feel sorrow, remorse or even a sense of responsibility. As to what he will say, I cannot say for certain but whatever he says he will couch it in terms of patriotism and necessary sacrifice and yet further proof that he was right.

Oh, and the tweet will end with the word “sad”.
