Why is Twitter not displaying for me correctly?

Asked by NerdyKeith (5489points) February 1st, 2017

The CSS is so messed up. I tried to contact Twitter support, but my issue is not listed. They just sent me an auto response resetting my password which didn’t help anything.

Any ideas what I could do?

CSS is not loading. Hold down shift and click reload. It should force all assets to be reloaded.

@johnpowell Yeah I’ve tried that. Its been like that for about two days.

What browser are you using?

NerdyKeith's avatar

@johnpowell I normally use Safari for mac. But I’ve tried using Google Chrome and Firefox; I get the same problem. Twitter is the only website this is happening on.

Odd. Do you you have a firewall like Little Snitch installed?

Does this load? (it should just be 12 lines of text)

https://abs.twimg.com/a/1485936062/css/t1/twitter_more_2.bundle.css

@johnpowell I’m not able to view that for some reason, its being blocked by my computer

Now we are getting closer.

Do you have any experience with the Terminal?

Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app

Could you try running this:

sudo nano /etc/hosts

It will ask for a password and as you type your password it won’t display anything. Just hit Return/Enter when you finish the password.

I’m curious what that outputs.

Thanks @johnpowell

This is what I’ve got

That isn’t showing the entire thing. Can you just use the arrow keys do go down in that and see if anything looks off?

Edit ::

Or at least any instance of

abs.twimg.com or
104.244.43.103

@johnpowell It mostly seems to be an IP code and blocked services from adobe. Nothing about twitter from what I can see.

Edit

I’ll have a look for that, thanks

Is it only your computer or are your iPhone or iPad affected? (make sure they are on wifi)

And I would hope you tried rebooted everything.

And another thing I would try is creating a new user and see if the problem happens with that user too.

Its working fine on my iPad and iPhone. Just told the iPhone / iPad to display desktop view.

Yeah I only recently did a system update, so the system was rebooted. I’ve tried logging in with alternative usernames. I’ve even logged out and its not displaying. Either I have a virus or something is blocking it on my computer

I’m stumped.

Again from the terminal I would try:

curl https://abs.twimg.com/a/1485936062/css/t1/twitter_more_2.bundle.css

And see if anything can be gleamed from the error message.

And did you see my edit above about creating a new user?

@johnpowell Thanks Jon, I’ve tried to use different users, with no result. Ok I’m going to try this again tomorrow. Thanks for the help

This is odd. I will think on it overnight.

Thanks again

@johnpowell Thanks for all your help really appreciated it. It seems that Twitter is once again working for me. I think maybe the Twitter support team may have tweaked the server behind the scenes after I emailed them. I wasn’t sure if they were going to help me, as they said that they cannot respond to individual requests. But seems to be back to normal now.

Thanks again!
